What's the best Greek or Mediterranean food around here? Are there any notable hole-in-the-wall places? I've been to Niko Niko's, but there has to be more and better places.

Prefer ITL, or not too far west.

I know I know it's a Pappa's place but I like Yia Yia Mary's.

Aladdin on Westheimer is pretty good as well.

For shawarmas hard to beat Phoenicia. Gyros then Als Quick Stop and then beers at Ruds.

Sweet lord, the new Nikos at town & country licks BAD. I've always thought nikos was subpar any way, and perhaps it's still new opening flubs, but the gyro was ass, the hummus was ass, the greeksalad had no dressing, the souvlaki was undercooked

We still prefer yia yias for white people med/Greek with the kids,me and the lady are always looking to try other joints

Fadi's and Alladin are run by members of the the same family but not the same owners. Fadi's Meyerland is actually run differently than the other locations since those guys split off. I think it's a lot better.

As mentioned, Cafe Lili and Maryz are both great as well. Zabaks is decent and the owners are really nice. I've had Roadster once and it was pretty mediocre.

I still hold a soft spot for Droubis but it's not the same as it used to be.

There are also a couple great Persian places in town that you can't go wrong with (Garson and Kasra)

I read that as Olive Garden at first and was thinking that their design theme is fairly Mediterranean.

Fadi's Meyerland isn't even listed on their Locations page. This thread has me hungry for a pint of their hummus and all the pita bread that I can eat so I went to see if they had a location near Katy. No dice...

Yeah, they market themselves as "Fadi's Meyerland" now. The brother's there weren't thrilled with the quality control at the other locations.

I prefer Luby's & La Madeleine for my lunch time eats. Or CostCo samples & pizza.

In Katy, the place next to the Target is good. Kabobs or something.

A bit different but Verts off of I-10 and Greenhouse is a good little German style Mediterranean chain.

Al Aseel on Richmond is currently my favorite in town. The location sucks, the service sucks, the ambiance sucks and the owners are Muslim so no alcohol but you won't find better Palestinian style chicken anywhere.
