Anyone here recently ordered a survey for their home? Looking for recommendations on a company to use. Doing some home construction work so will need one for the City of Dallas.

I have a lot of opinions on this topic that I'll try to keep to my self.

That said....what kind of survey do you need to submit to the City of Dallas? Just boundary? Plus topographic? Does it need to reference a title commitment or abstractor's certificate?

For residential building permit, it's usually just metes and bounds showing the structure locations, driveway/other paving, fences, setbacks, and utilities.

You can download a firm roster at the link above. There are 41 registered surveying firms in Dallas proper. Only 10 of those appear to be mainly focused on surveying (don't have "Engineering" in their name). I'd Google those 10 and see who seems the most professional. Call the top 3 from your review and see what they say.

My last project in the City of Dallas with a similar scope required an ALTA survey. We used KAZ Survey out of Denton, with good results. They're just as good as the more expensive Dallas or Plano based surveyors, but slightly lower in cost despite the mileage.
