My wife and I are looking to build a new home in the DFW area but have no idea where to start. We are buying land in an existing neighborhood and need someone to actually build the house on it.


Any suggestions?

Might be helpful to know the general area you are buying in.

Any interest in an architect? Or are you going with builder supplied stock "custom" plans?

Haven't really decided yet but I'm assuming custom. Most of the builder I have seen are building in already established developments with Joss. That's something we are trying to avoid

John Askew did my parent's house. It's a great house but there were a few minor issues that they took care of at the start of ownership under warranty (ie, second floor bathroom leaked to den ceiling above).

One thing my mom always mentioned was they were very pushy to get the design wrapped up and she feels like they settled just to start construction. My mom HATES the kitchen because the way it was designed (to be open to the den via countertop) means you have to turn the tv all the way up to not hear meals being made.

But they are definitely a quality builder.

If you were a few more years down the road, I'd throw my hat in the ring

Clarity / Bannister (Bannister is higher end). We built with Clarity 5 years ago and had a great experience and the house has had basically zero problems.
