Sorry, Mexican inn is not good.

Love their chips and everything else is trash.

Agree to disagree. It's solid traditional Tex-Mex along the lines of El Fenix. I'd eat there any day over Uncle Julio's.

El Fenix is atrocious. That's the Dickey's of Mexican Food.

PS: I'm craving their chips and might go there for lunch today...

Some of the more underrated but best Fort Worth Mexican restaurants, in my opinion:

Mariposa's (their tamales are outstanding)
Los Asadero's (North Main - get the queso flameado)
El Rancho Grande
Rio Mambo

El Patron off of North Main has some of the best breakfast tacos I have ever had. They sell them in 3 packs. The staff at my office go wild whenever I bring some in.

Los molcajetes is legit.
We go to the one in Roanoke, and it is legit.

Nothing wrong with El Fenix or Dickey's IMO, but I'm not a food snob and don't care for fancy places. Both are solid and dependable for standard Tex-Mex and BBQ at decent prices.

El Rancho Grande

I haven't had El Rancho Grande in a few years but I've been dozens of times and it was always very good.

Another for Los Molcajetes. Mi Pueblo decent as well, but a little more "gringo" I thought.

Los Jimadores is near the Mi Pueblo in North Richland Hills is another good one. Lupe's Tex Mex on Central in Bedford. Both are in the same vein as Los Molcajetes in my opinion. Tortillas are just average at Lupes. Love their salsa, and mole sauce.

Enchiladas Ole

We went here last night - absolutely fantastic. They even gave us 2 huge cups of their salsa as we left because they were closing and make it fresh daily and weree going to throw it out. It's currently byob, but they were saying they were building out a new space near top golf with a full bar.

Y'all don't like the home made fritos at the original? Food is marginal overall though.

The Original

The Original is garbage. I'd rather eat at Taco Bell than that place.

Born & raised in Fort Worth and never had the original, as far as I can remember, as a kid but had it back in '04 when I was housesitting off camp Bowie. To say the least was not impressed. Maybe need to give it another try

Joe T's has great atmosphere and mediocre food. Mexican Inn is solid chain along with Uncle Julio's, Pappasitos, Don Pablo's, etc. My favorite is El Paseo though I usually go to the Azle location.
El Paseo Azle>Lake Worth>>Mineral Wells locations

Uncle Julios = El Paseo > Pappasitos>>>> Don Pablos

I work in AZLE and I don't think I've ever been to that El Paseo. I'll have to try it.

The Original suffered a few years in the late 90s when they went with cheap grainy cheese and it was awful. They've fixed it. It's just as good as ever.

Because of this thread, I went to The Original on Friday for lunch. After arriving, I remembered that I had actually eaten there, years back.

It was good, but not great. Granted, it was lunch. And the other two I discussed above as being great (Uncle Julios and El Paseo) are not as good at lunch as they are for dinner for whatever reason.

I had chicken enchiladas and they are NOT as good as El Paseo's.

Another vote for Mercado Juarez.
