Does anyone know of a reputable guitar place I can put 6-7 guitars on consignment to get them out of the house? My father owned a small town guitar shop and he passed several months back. My soon to be wife is looking to get them out of the house and we need to offload them anyway. Does anyone know of contacts or such a place around the Richardson area? They are mostly higher end guitars left over from dads store. Any help or info is appreciated.

Don't know of consignment shops that specialise in guitars, but I know several guitar players.

What all do you have?

Maybe you can sell a few to some of these people.

I'm taking pictures tonight and will list what I have in this thread later. If they are interested, I can email you or whoever you have in mind the pics.

Get rid of the soon-to-be wife and keep your father's guitars.

I've got a few of my own and a Les Paul that he gave me. The one's I'm getting rid of were simply in his shop. They didn't necessarily mean anything to him. I have no need for more than a few guitars.

Talk to people at Guitar Center and see if they can do anything or give you some direction where to list. I know they have used stuff but not sure if they do consignment. Sure they could give you some leads though.

Maybe Texas Guitar Workshop. They are just north of Arapho on the east side of 75. If they couldn't take them, but they would know a place.

Murphys Music in Irving. He'll take them on consignment.

Anything you'd let go cheap?

The Les Paul is the only one I'm likely to keep. Sorry guys. That was one he was going to hand down. I got carried away taking the pics. I'll remove it.

They look fantastic. Love the first three. Would look amazing in my media/music studio. Sadly I wouldn't do them any justice. If you don't want to sell, I'd love to have them hung up as decor in my place; ready for you to pick up at your whim.

I'm sure you want a consignment store so that you don't have to deal w/prospective buyers, but I have to throw it out there....I've sold a couple of guitars on Craigslist with no issues. The prices for both I felt I got the maximum that I was seeing on flea-bay.

That poor D! Probably someone took it and tried to make it a touring musician's guitar. That's near tragic for such a beautiful instrument, but I get it. It's definitely a guitar worth looking in to and I'm dying to see more photos of the inlay and the back. It's one of my dream guitars.

Given that your dad owned a shop, there's no telling what year that was made. D's were made in before 1942, and they started making them again in 1968. Anyway, the 69 Brazilian rosewoods are pretty rare and can fetch north of $35,000 in good condition. Surely, nobody cut up a 69 for electronics, but you never know and I wouldn't trust anyone not to screw me in a consignment deal.

EDIT:

Just saw your note about the serial number and my heart skipped for a second. Any 5 number D-45 would almost certainly be a "pre-war original" which would be a $100,000+ guitar. But that production number would put it at 1945 or so, which is 3 years after they stopped making them. I'm guessing the serial number is 1091672, which would make it a 2004 model. Much easier to swallow someone cutting a 2004 up than a 1942.

Yea, I don't think the Martin is that old but it would still be really nice if some idiot hadn't jacked with it. It would probably still make for a really nice players guitar with a little work.

and yes, my whole goal is to get these guitars to people that actually want them, and get a fair price and not get jobbed by a music/consignment store.
