Attached is a breakdown + a google doc on the cuts. This is a COVID tax loss issue, disguised as a 'defund the police'

6.5 mill to homeless as well...

I bet they never follow through on phase 2 and 3. This is just to calm the loud voices. There's literally cuts to 'special events' in those categories.

So $6.5M for homelessness. Does one guy get an estate in Westlake or does everyone currently camping under an overpass get a nicer tent. Would love to know how effectively this money is spent.

Well, given recent trends, they will approve overpaying for a run down hotel.

Can't believe they cut the cadet training classes for '20 and '21. APD will now be retiring as soon as they are eligible and we will have no one to replace them. Pure genius.

If you spend on homelessness, you Just get more of it.

Negative my friend, APD Officers will not be retiring when eligible. They will be retiring even earlier by buying out there existing time. Look for officers to begin retirement at 20-21 years of service. A lot of officers aren't gonna wait for 23. Especially if they face an uncertain contract negotiation.

since COVID shut our offices, i have only been downtown twice since March. 1 time in May and then last week.

drove down 6th street during the middle of the day, then to Congress and Cesar Chavez.

downtown is a complete pit right now.

I havent ventured downtown in a while.

But go to 183 and Burnet. There is a small town, that resembles a dump, under the highway. It's unreal. They have dining areas set up, vehicles, shanty homes.

I heard near Riverside it's even worse.

There are no homeless in the DFW metroplex out and about bothering folks. I would imagine when they are scooped up there, they are all bussed to Austin, where they can gain access to homeless shangri-la.
