How long do you want to ignore this user?
Will be in Austin (W Slaughter/I35) area in a couple weekends. Looking for eating establishments recommendations for different culture cuisine...not Mexican, Italian, Cajun...not a chain...not sushi. Maybe Mediterranean (loved Zaytinya in DC) or Indian or Caribbean or South American. Don't want to break the bank.
Any suggestions?

Whip In, 35 southbound frontage road between Woodland and Oltorf. It's primarily a beer store, so many labels, but also has Indian food.

Cajun: Evangeline Cafe
Mexican: Hecho en Mexico (locations in Oak Hill and east on Montopolis)

ETA Whip In is awesome, and they have a $9.99 lunch buffet now.

A lot of the places on East 6th are very good(not sure if you consider that south, it is for me )

I would specifically recommend Buenos Aires for Argentinian food and Licha's cantina has some of the best red snapper I've ever tasted.

Jacoby's is also great over on the east side for southern home cooking.

The best Mediterranean place in Austin, is actually out in Bee Cave by the Galleria. Artemis Cafe. Its a second location for a place out in Lake Tahoe. Solid food.

Thanks for all your recommendations. We ended up not in South Austin but at the Clay Pit. My first time with Indian cuisine. Loved it. Next time I think we will try Taste of Ethiopia. You sure put together a great list to choose from. Should be helpful to anyone wanting recommendations.
