Didn't amazon want to be downtown. Heard that city showed a plot that is currently an apartment complex off riverside.

Sounds like the place Oracle recently bought.
oracle is building another 5000 employee building...

They have multiples phases planned on their new campus. Their goal is to consolidate the dozen or so Oracle offices around the city to one campus.

That campus and space isn't near large enough for the number of folks amazon is expecting, nor is the public transit sufficient for that area.
Then that sounds like the perfect location!

The news story I saw that mentioned the 3M closing said North Austin. I assumed they were wrong and meant the campus out at Four Points? If they could find a way (they won't) to put a light rail line from that campus into, say North Lamar, I would say it's feasible.

Their lakeshore campus is ugly in daylight but extra hideous in the evening when their giant red sign reflects across the water like some crappy sci fi movie.
