I know these come up often, so I apologize. Our annual enrollment period is going on now. I've been going to same one for two years but I get the idea they are primarily a female-centric practice so I'm looking for something else. Preferably Central, med Center area, North Lamar/Burnet.
Thanks

ETA, mid 50's male, typically visit for annual checkup and need the occasional specialist referral.

Wife and I have both been going to ARC on Far West for a few years now. No complaints.

I've gone to Dr. Mark Hutchens at Texas Sports & Family Medicine on Red River at 32nd for around 10 years. Good doc, gets down to business with no BS. He's an Ag, too.

I have also gone to ARC on far west for the past few years and been happy with it. Capital Medical Clinic in Medical Park Tower has a very good reputation for internists but only a few of the docs are accepting new patients I believe.

Thanks. I'll check to see if any are in my plan. For the ARC, do y'all see a particular doctor or is it just whichever is available?

I don't typically go to the doctor until I need to see someone ASAP, so I go with whoever is available. I think a lot of their GPs spend different parts of the week at other locations, so if you want to see one doctor everytime, you might have to schedule more in advance.

Decided to go to ARC to establish a PCP relationship today (also to ask about some joint pains), what a waste of time. Guess I'll give them another chance after scheduling a full physical for early next month, but so far this has been a reminder of why I don't bother with regular checkups.

Just learned that most all doctors at ARC will not see you for a physical until you've wasted your time with the "establish patient care" appointment first. Had my 2:00 appointment today cancelled a few minutes ago via a voicemail. They offered to reschedule me for a meet and greet in a week and then I could schedule an actual physical 4 weeks after that.

Another reminder of why I haven't been to the doctor in years.

Go see a DPC (direct primary care) doc and pay a low monthly fee to be apart of their practice. Can get same day appointments and labs for much cheaper.

Dr. Michael Garrett is a great doc but not sure he is taking new patients. Dr. Larson is also an option.

This has been my experience, in general as well.

Really hate that these days you have to buy a VIP pass to join a club to see a doctor, so that I can then pay them for services.

I started using Total Men's Primary care. I see a PA most times I go, but I think they have docs available also? I used to use ARC Far West and in Cedar Park, but struggled with much of the same things you are, especially with appointments being weeks out, and a buddy told me about TMPC. I would recommend them, if they fit your needs.

At TMPC, I made an appt online that morning for the same day, showed up at the location at my time, after they called me to confirm, and was in and out, even as a new patient in less than 45 minutes total. They have a computer you use when you arrive, to fill out your new patient paperwork, which speeds things up nicely as you don't have to hand-write it, and then wait for someone to key it in.

From what I have seen and my buddy agrees, they are running a practice in a modern/efficient manner, unlike 99% of the other places I have been to in Austin in my lifetime. They doc that comes in to see you, and the nurse, are taking notes on tablets, not paper, so that is more efficient also.

I am also like you. I go in every few years at best and don't want to spend a lot of time dealing with failed mass medical practice logistics when I do go. HTH!
