Sorry hit return by mistake.

Staying at North side of lake in couple of weeks with grand daughters (9, 7, 4). What activities around there would be good?

I guess if you are an out of towner, then most would tell you to go to the Oasis for a good sunset view of the lake. It used to have really crappy food, so you just wen there for drinks. Since the fire and rebuild I have heard it has gotten better and there are other things to do attached to the restaurant. http://oasis-austin.com/

Lucy's on the lake is a good view too, but never been there, so I can't attest to anything: http://www.lucysfriedchicken.com/on-the-lake/

About the only other "activity" I could think of up in the four points area is http://themoviehouse.com/austin/ (if you wanted to beat the heat) outside of the standard golf, winery tours/stuff and various boating/sailing rentals.

Jaws on the water happens a couple of times a year, see if you are in town when it's going on.

Will just miss it. Just as well as think no way my wife would let me take our Grand daughters to that. Hell I wouldn't go deeper that a few feet in the ocean the entire summer it came out.

rent a boat

if you like live music, plenty around there, Lago Vista used to have cool little outdoor venue downtown
Carlos & Charlie's reopened as The Rusty Rudder I think, but haven't been there. Johnny Fins if still open had good food.

At the Lakeway Marina, you can call a boat to pick you up, and take you to Shades Restaurant out on the water if its still open. Marina used to have sunset cruise deal that was cheap, like $10 a person for 2 hours.
County Parks are cool, I used to hang at Windy Point. Lots of windsurfing

friend of mine that lives there swears he'll never go back to Lucy's. Overpriced & lousy service

Pretty much all lake food places scale from bad to OK and few decent ones. They know they can get by that way because they are on a lake. When I posted on the Oasis and said it improved was it went from bad to overpriced OK.

it was back in 2005 when I moved away, the old place burned down. Beau Theriot ( or what ever his name is ), IMO ruined all that land around him by developing it. But, I was long gone any way, and folks were moving in like crazy from out of state,etc....

Edit: I always thought The Oasis was very average in food & service

I was down there last summer visiting a buddy in Hudson Bend. Let's just say, he was a real estate guy, selling out, moving back to his home town in West Texas to take care of family. Had a 10 year kid, extremely frustrated w/ LTISD.

On the plus side, he was selling his place for an incredible amount. Enough that he, his wife could retire, put his kid in schools out there.

He told me, "don't move back here, you wouldn't like it anymore".
