This seems nuts to me. $110 million proposed for renovations to CSHS and A&M consol alone. How much does a new HS cost to build today? CSISD has a total enrollment of 14,000. 350M/14000=$25000 per student. Love how they mention safety upgrades but that encompass a whole $5M of the bond.

Are some of these "expenditures" really necessary?

Remember your property tax increases when it's time to vote.

It is divided into 4 separate propositions so you can vote for some of it, all of it, or none of it.

That's almost rebuilding Kyle Field if you don't account for inflation.

Yeah that's honestly an absurd ask.

I believe in 2014 TAMU budgeted $485M for Kyle Field. Today that would be $631M.

CSISD Board is meeting next week to set the 2023-24 tax rate. I understand that the tax rate will be going down 21 cents.

Supposedly it would cost around $300 million in today's dollars to be build a new 5A high school and would cost about $5 million per year to operate it.
Tibbers

Make that make sense.

I have a hard time swallowing that. Using CSHS rough sq footage that means it would cost $8-900 per sq foot to build today.

Consol definitely needs upgrades to the athletic facilities. Even those of us that don't have kids there know that.

Current rate is 1.1781, proposed new rate is .9622 (in the article). So yes, a little over $.21. If I calculated correctly (fingers crossed), I think my property tax bill will be a fair bit lower this year than last in spite of the 10% increase in taxable value.

From the article and slides it looks like the bond is estimated to lead to a tax increase of $.02 over the current rate, or $20 per $100000 of property valuation. I assume this is in part because of older bonds being paid off, etc., but it looks like the new bond wouldn't change the status quo for taxes by all that much.

Over $100 million of the bond is for expansion/renovation of both high schools. That's been coming for a long time, so no surprise, and seems needed as the enrollment of both schools has continued increasing from what I remember.

Do you know how the proposition will be split?

The most logical is
1. Construction (non-sport and administration)
2. Sport related
3. Education related.
4. Administration related

I would vote for #3, vote against #2 and 4 and think hard about #1.

Sorry .. I apparently can't type. It would be around $300 million today and who knows how much in 2-4 years.

How much per student that goes through the district over the next 20-30 years? Or do only the students enrolled this one year benefit?

Good point, but I would put the time frame at 10-12 years, as that seems to be the norm for rolling out new capital improvement projects.

Do those facilities translate to a higher graduation rate than college station kids? Do those result in better outcomes in sports? Do those result in more kids going to college?

The athletic facilities were built when Consol was a small 4A school. They (and CSHS) will be 6A in 2-4 years. Consol has run out of space and the locker rooms are so disjointed. They are too small. Cheer and Belles currently share locker room space, but before that happened Cheer was in a converted storage closet just 3 years ago. The weight room is so small the football team is lifting throughout the hallways in the fieldhouse. They can't fit into the weight room. The training space is so tiny kids are laying on the floor and in the hallways in the morning for treatment.
