Saturday, Sept. 3 vs. Sam Houston State

Aggies will be among the pilots of four Marine Corps helicopters for the flyover Saturday before Texas A&M's home opening football game vs. Sam Houston State.

Lt. Col. William "Nose" Smyth '03 and Capt. Nathan Hall '18 will fly an AH-1Z (Viper) helicopter. Another Viper and two UH-1Y (Venom) helicopters will complete the flyover, all from Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 773 Detachment A ("Red Dogs") of New Orleans.

If you're an Association of Former Students donor, you help provide hotel accommodations for pilots and crew for home game flyovers. Thank you! The Association also hosts gameday events and away-game Yell Practices with the A&M yell leaders (tx.ag/Gameday), provides funding for Midnight Yell Practice and organizes Class Reunions including this weekend's Texas A&M Young Alumni Weekend!

I hope this year we get something more than whirlybirds, C-130s, and a few fighters.

I'd really like to see a B-52, B-1B, B-2, or heck, even a C-5.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

We could maybe get a B-52 again. It's been done before.

Less likely for a B-1 but maybe.

B-2? Not sure we have ever had one. What's the nearest base for them?

C-5 would be nice! With fighter escorts, of course.

Awesome. The Viper is the meanest and most aggressive looking aircraft we have in service, maybe with exception of my all time favorite, the A-10.

All B-2s are based at Whiteman AFB in Missouri, although sometimes they will be deployed elsewhere like Guam and Diego Garcia.

So Missouri then. Got it.

I remember one crashed at Diego Garcia several years back.

It was actually on Guam, because someone forgot to blow dry some sensors.

If they get an AC-130, will it fly in circles above the stadium?

I wonder if they'll have any issue landing on a soft / muddy field.

Awesome pictures, both in this post and your previous.

My 5 month old son and I spent a lot of the morning standing in the yard watching them circle over south CS.

Awesome! The kids and I enjoy the flyovers every game as we are right in the typical flight path. We get in the bed of my truck and yell, "Get that natty baby!"

No info yet. Sometimes they do a meet and greet on the parking pad at the airport. That means regular folks don't get in to touch the aircraft.

That is why i was excited about the event last week at Simpson Drill Field.
