If you are looking to buy a house that has already installed solar panels, how can you find out if it's set up to use the electricity generated or sell it back?

Basically in bcs csu and btu pay back at market rate if at all and in general not going to be much. So if you are paying csu .0.15 kwh you might get. 0.03-0.05 kwh.

I have a buddy in Paris, TX who just had the music man, er, solar panel man do a sit down with him. Here's what he was told:

"Just completed the solar panal sales pitch meeting...

Would install 13.9kW system that would cover 110% of my current average use (37 panels, 350-370W each over approximately 445 sq feet) for $55K, less federal allowance of $14430, leaving $41070 financed over 25-yrs at $172-215/mo depending on credit. Monthly payment includes all equipment, install labor and warranty 'for 25-years', including 'roof penetration'. Hailstorm damage, lightening, etc would be under home owners ins."

This is on a home with a current average bill of $260.

Depends where they live. If they live on any of the apartments close to the university (that are on university leased land), then they don't pay anything. For example the "Park West" complex with over 2000 apartments are on University's lease land and they are not contributing to our taxes.

[I believe] there will be two meters. Also an agreement has to be in place between CSU and the owner, something you would likely have to enter into yourself.

Why doesn't our area do Net Metering?

Because the COCS likes the hidden tax from overcharging for electricity and wants to discourage solar.

You'd think that in the left leaning green utopia of College Station, they'd do that... Hmmm, maybe it's not about doing the right thing for the planet... It's just a money grab.

IIRC the argument for this was to stick it to the students since they typically do not pay property tax.

Except they do pay property taxes indirectly through their rent. Or directly if they (or their parents) own the home they are living in, in which case they (or their parents) are paying property taxes.

If property taxes are getting paid, why does the city care who is paying them?
It was presented as a matter of fairness, making the transitory student population pay their fair share while here.

Again this is going back a ways. Maybe somebody else can chime in with better memory.
As landlords consider all their costs, tenants pay property taxes through their rents. It's just another way for the city to get more money for their pet projects as us sheep just sit and take it with a big smile.

The cost of electricity and other utilities to homeowners should not be transferred to any general account of the city. Any excess should be banked as future reserves for repairs and expansion or given back to the consumer in credits on future bills.

Always remember that governments will never quench their thirst for your money.

Not to mention "hook up" fees for apartment dwellers, that's all done automatically with smart meters.
