Got this in the mail. Must be two sides of the story but personally, "no", I don't want to open up a water shortage in the Brazos Valley simply because some guy buys a tiny plot of land to pimp out the water to Austin. Let them and Round Rock eat their cake.

Point is the rule of capture holds for all. Do you think BCS cities have gigantic areas of land around their local wells to "justify " the volumes of water they pump?

Interesting. Maybe they wouldn't have found themselves in this situation if entities like Brazos county were forced to pay for anything more than their allotted 2 acre feet per surface acre.

Also, the groundwater conservation districts have a well earned reputation of treating landowners like peasants. Wouldn't be surprised if this person had previous experience with that treatment.

We received mailings for a couple of years regarding this suit and, if I remember correctly, he had a permit denied for personal use water under quite a few acres (not a postage stamp) while the City of Bryan received a permit for pumping jillions of gallons under a couple of acres. He was just trying to get treated fairly and there were some shenanigans going on with that particular water board.

Yes, but the City/County does lots of exclusive things that are exclusive to a government body. Some more questionable than others but if every Tom Dock and Harry who owned a lot began selling jazillion gallons of water as a business, we'd be in a rough spot.

Depressing. Water is going to be an extremely valuable commidity and rather than using that to bolster your own community in 20 years, you sell out now to the Austin metro.

I'll value common sense over a single sold-out "expert".

I did, but those metros are growing very rapidly. Their demands will rise. Landowners will continue to 'sell-out', and what would have been a 'low' impact turns into concerns over 30 years.

And indeed it has worked out so well before.
