I know Marie-Anne Mousseau-Holland through WE:BCS.
She is one of the founders of WE:BCS and Lemonade Day BCS. She is driven, incredibly involved in the community, and seems to be fed up with the bureaucratic nonsense currently plaguing CoCS. She also owns a local daycare center (not in home daycare), and will hopefully be bringing a new business/service to families in the area soon.

If I lived in CS, I would vote for her in a heartbeat. She wants change, and doesn't seem to know the word "no". I don't know her well, but know her well enough to know she is hands down a better choice than the incumbents.

Place 4
  • Elizabeth Cunha (Incumbent): Cunha is running for reelection and has been a resident of College Station for 32 years. She is an instructional assistant in College Station ISD. Cunha filed for Place 4 on July 19.
  • William Wright: Wright is a production supervisor and has lived in College Station for just over 32 years. He filed for Place 4 on Aug. 2.
Place 6
  • David Levine: Levine has lived in the area for almost nine years and filed for Place 6 on July 19. He works as a general manager.
  • Dennis Maloney (Incumbent): Maloney is running for reelection and filed for Place 6 on July 20.
  • Marie-Anne Mousseau-Holland: Holland filed for Place 6 on Aug. 16. She's an entrepreneur and has lived in the area for 13 years.
I for one, will not vote for any incumbent this year. Your choice of course.

No edits other than grammar and all withing a few minutes of posting. Thanks for your support. I intend to follow up with only the facts, likely more damming than the "opinion"

[You used a derogatory name for one of the candidates instead of their real name and we are not going to allow that on this forum. If you are going to complain about moderation be truthful about what you posted. This is the last post that we will respond to regarding moderation on this thread and will just remove any other posts on that subject. -Staff]

Could you explain why you would vote for Wright if you don't like Maloney? Policy-wise, I don't see much of a difference between them. Cunha is a bit of an outlier on our otherwise CSAN dominated council.

They quick facts:
CSAN Support Maloney & Wright
https://theeagle.com/opinion/letters/csan-recommends-council-candidates/article_2c826aae-1c06-11ec-9018-2736368174c4.html

Maloney Says:
This isn't a taking. … Parks are crucial to us and are just as vital for your community as police and fire."
Votes with block to use eminent domain to purchase park land.
Cunha only one to vote against the CSAN supported block, AGAIN.

Wright supports Maloney
https://ky-kg.facebook.com/wright4council

Wright supported the ROO

Cunha voted agains ROO

CSAN has endorsed every current member of the council sans Cunha

My Opinion: If you like what COCS has been doing you need to Reelect Maloney and elect Wright. If you are not a fan you have options. Cunha has been the one consistently voting against the council members that were endorsed by CSAN. I find nothing about Levine or Marie-Anne Mousseau-Holland that would indicate they would not be fine Maloney replacements.

David Levine is the General manager of the local Mercedes dealership. Got a chance to meet him a few weeks ago over a car issue. He seemed like a great guy.

We could cut through all the BS and just ask each candidate if they supported Trump and his agenda. A simple yes or no would make it easy to choose a side.

I agree.
If they voted for or support the total ineptness that is in the White House right now, they need to be gone. Nobody with that kind of limited foresight needs to be making decisions for our community.
It would also expose the socialists.

Not really. The issues that a local official has to deal with are not at all the same as national issues.

Who they support at the state and national levels most certainly matters. It's indicates the types of decisions that they will push at the local level.

Someone should ask Levine and Holland how often they vote. If they don't even pay attention enough to vote in local elections, how can they honestly claim that they know enough to all of a sudden jump in and run the city?

BTW, voting records (count, not who they voted for) is public record and can be obtained from the county elections administrator.

Wright is a nice guy, but like the poster above stated he's just a young Maloney.

The most important thing to be aware of this year is that Maloney and their block voting group want to make elections on non-standard voting years so that they can lower turnout.

https://blog.cstx.gov/2021/10/15/what-you-should-know-about-the-city-charter-amendments-before-you-head-to-the-polls/

Proposition C: City General Election Timing

Shall Article III (The City Council), Section 17 (Number, Selection, Term), Subsection (d) of the College Station City Charter be amended to provide that the general election is to be held on the November uniform election date of each odd-numbered year instead of on the November uniform election date of each even-numbered year; and to provide a process to transition from even-numbered election years to odd-numbered election years?

It increases city costs and helps their block retain control. That should tell you what you need to know about that group's priorities for the city.

I am kind of surprised he went there. But in a recent interview Maloney said he thinks College Station should have a $15/hr "living wage" law.

I don't even think that kind of thing is a good idea for Seattle.

Some of the oil field workers start around $15/hr in this area (maybe a little more). Maloney thinks a McDonald's workers deserve the same rate? Because let's be honest, places that already pay over $15/hr likely won't increase those wages accordingly (because then what would be the point, other than to massively devalue the dollar).

Yes, years ago it was moved from May to November in even years.

Got a plus one for David Levine here. Solid, stand up guy who stands by his word. He wants our city to do better. I feel incumbents need to be changed out and that's at every level of government.

Fresh faces and fresh ideas.

The topic of election accessibility vs. suppression has been voted on twice by CoCS residents.

On background:
Off cycle elections were created during Reconstruction with the intention of suppressing undesirable voters.
When its success at selective election turnout was proven many public employee unions became promoters of off cycle voting so small mutually interested groups could elect those with whom they would be negotiating their contracts.

First vote was in the '12-'13 time frame when Texas allowed municipalities to hold elections in November rather than be constrained to May.

CoCS Council went to extreme measures to put keeping elections in May on the ballot.
A group of citizens who believe representative government is good government plus some Aggie students formed a political action committee and beat the city's measure with a 68% margin.
Fast forward 2018.
Specifically election years (even/odd) were on the ballot. Even years won with 70%, The switch over began.

So, YES, the voters in College Station have voted resoundingly to make elections accessible.
And, NO our Council refuses to accept the answer.

Stop Prop C - Vote NO to promote engaged and involved representative government in College Station.

My $0.02: If the argument can be won on merit "home cooking" is not necessary.

I remember reading that Cunha was against the odd-year voting so it's not the whole council refusing to listen to voters' opinions on this matter, just most of them.

Yes Mooney and the council less Cunaha are the ones driving the voter reduction initiative.
