Today's Eagle had a guest editorial, by "College Station businessman Tom Kiske".
Though understood it's on the editorial page, the content was simply....bizarre. Littered with erroneous opinions written as factual, it could be a feature piece on MSNBC....
Gridlock, or something....

Bet he has no problem with 1 party rule in places like CA, NY, WA, OR, and IL.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Do we really want a passel of yahoos with no clue on how safely to use a lethal weapon toting around six guns and or AK47s? Maybe a few restrictions on law-abiding Texans make sense when you realize the guy behind every one of the now-too-common mass shootings was a law-abiding person until he wasn't.
Does someone want to tell peepaw that AK47s are already illegal?

Semi-auto ones are legal.

Full auto ones are too, but due to the 1986 ban on new ones and registration requirements for existing ones, they are very rare, extremely expensive, and come with additional requirements in order to purchase.

I bet this guy doesn't know the different in an AR-15, AK-47, SCAR-17, M1A, or Mini-14.

Well, when you write ".....but was it wise to repeal all firearm regulations?", then you quickly realize the writer has no grasp for reality.

Written by a B-CS "local businessman", for publication in a local B-CS paper, about Texas (where Aggieland is located) legislation....

Who then hell is Tom Kiske? He seems like someone who does not represent the community views.

I've lived here since the 1980s except for a couple of years in Dallas in the 90s. He represents mine. I lived through the 1970s West Texas oilfields and never once in my life have I needed to carry a gun. I've seen too much gun violence from "law-abiding citizens" to not want some sanity in our laws.

Fair enough. I forgot the word "many" in my blanket statement. My mistake.

I won't get into an F 16 argument here.

I really hate when people lie to score political points. Not knowing the truth but promoting provably wrong positions is effectively the same thing to me. It's 2021, all kinds of cool information is available on the internet. Texas isn't the first state to pass Constitutional Carry. We're not the 10th or 20th either. I believe we're 22nd. All this hand wringing is just that, hand wringing. we know with a high degree of confidence how this will go. Otherwise law abiding citizens will carry and there will be no issues. Otherwise not law abiding citizens already were carrying without licenses, kind of goes with that whole "not a law abiding citizen" thing. We've seen this movie 21 times already and know this isn't going to have the slightest negative impact on gun violence. His comment about mass shooters once being law abiding is absurd on its face.

In case the casual reader thinks the article only erroneously addresses firearm laws, the author also falsely stated what the rules are for poll watchers, in the pending legislation:
"...SB 7 would remove all restrictions on partisan poll watchers, allowing them to prowl all over inside polling places.", and "...almost impossible to remove, even if he or she is hovering over voters"

Then there's those pesky facts....
Sec. 33.057. OBSERVING PREPARATION OF VOTER'S BALLOT. (a) A watcher is entitled to be present at the voting station when a voter is being assisted by an election officer, and the watcher is entitled to examine the ballot before it is deposited in the ballot box to determine whether it is prepared in accordance with the voter's wishes.

(b) A watcher may not be present at the voting station when a voter is preparing the voter's ballot or is being assisted by a person of the voter's choice.

People that are favor more restrictive policy present one set of data, people that favor more permissive policies present another set of data.

I think the funniest part of all this is that the Eagle has a paywall and charges for content.

I think that's a fair point with regard to the talking heads on either side of any given subject but one thing you'll find about me is that I focus on data that I research myself. Hard numbers and I focus on those from government sources for things like gun violence. That's why this entire debate angers me so much. The politicians and their news media cheerleaders tell us how gun violence is soaring and how dangerous weapons like the AR-15 are and that the only solution is to give up those weapons. Yet it takes less than an hour at DOJ.gov to find out that everything they're telling us on this subject is lies. All of it. The vast majority of gun violence is either suicide or gang violence occurring in the cities with the strictest gun laws in the nation. Neither of those are happening with AR's and the gangbangers are by definition not law abiding citizens.

Yet to hear the political class tell it AR's are running around killing people of their own free will, kind of like we saw from SUV's 20 years ago. They're selling a message of fear and everything is a crisis that only they can solve. Yet at the end of the day their entire message is lies and the proof is available on their own website. This isn't F16 so I apologize for the F16 style rant but the OP is about a letter to the editor that's based on the lies he's seen from the political class. He's been duped and he's trying to spread the ignorance to everyone else and I have a problem with that.

My guess is that WTA hasn't actually seen any gun violence if he has "never needed to carry a gun."

I know when ever I walk into a business while legally carrying, I pop a cap in someone's knee so everyone knows not to mess with me.

It's just a flesh wound.

Writing ridiculous letters to the editor, apparently.
