We've done this before, but it's time for an update IMO

Criterion is ACTUAL response time for COMPLETION and some semblance of a reasonable (not cheap/not gouging) charge. Further, not 3-4 days before a SUPERVISOR can get out to analyze what a field tech looked at.

Local company that advertises "24 hour service with annual service contract " is like an old Mitch Hedberg joke:

"Sign says you're open 24 hrs"
........

"Yeah. But not 24 in a row!"

Who are our best local operators?

I have a different perspective about Climate Masters. Our unit went out yesterday evening. We called at 8 o'clock this morning and had a technician out and the problem solved by 12:20 pm. They have always been responsive to our requests for service.

I have liked Malek, but I felt really taken advantage of last time they worked for me. 3 to 4x what it reasonably should have cost. I should have told them to kick rocks...

What is "reasonably" based on, exactly? Not being argumentative but we hear this all the time about most all trade industries but at the end of the day these guys generally all charge about the same rate per hour of labor so the odds of you having been gouged are low, particularly when you're dealing with one of the bigger names in town.

Bottom line is that labor is really difficult in the various trades these days and as a result wages are climbing rather rapidly. I'm not intimately involved in the AC industry but just from what I know from clients in other trade industries I know that labor is tight with not enough techs and parts costs are rising with raw material costs for the various metals that make AC systems soaring.

Point is that between soaring parts costs and labor shortages we're going to see costs for trade services rising and it's going to feel like you're being gouged when in reality it's just the market being tight.

I'll toss Grimes and Galan in the mix here. Small company and you're probably dealing directly with the owner.

I don't know if it is or not, I don't live in that world. Did you price it against their competition? That's kind of my point, "reasonable" is a pretty meaningless word. Inflation is here in a big way. If you got 2-3 bids and that's where everyone was then yes that's reasonable.

In my last house, I always had Mosqueda Cooling & Heating take care of things. They were always reasonably priced, professional, and respectful of my home.

Mize. They installed our systems in 1982 and we have used them since. Third generation on the family side and employees that stay with them so it is not a new tech everytime.We have a relationship. They can cite chapter and verse everything they have done on our systems over the years. One of the two original units is still going...it has become a joke between us as to when it will finally putter out. They are honest and reliable and we trust them. No idea where they are on the local rating scale. We would not use anyone else.

Called in evening , came next day . Quoted $80 service call on the phone . After arriving and making a minor repair , he did not charge me since it was an easy fix and asked that I remember them the next time I need HVAC service .

Marco and his son (Aire Cool) installed a 5 ton Carrier system in my shop today. Did a great job as always, at the best price out of 3 bids. His Carrier bid even beat other "off brand" systems.

LOL...a buddy called yesterday and complained about the lack of return calls from 3 or 4 companies he had called about his compressor not coming on. I recommended he call Marco. He did, and Marco was on-site in 25 mins and installed a new capacitor and fixed a leak. Service was completed within 1 hour of the initial call, which is darn good for a Saturday. I think the bill was $500ish.

I went with Superior and my situation was kinda complicated.

The senior management jumped in and grabbed the bull by the horns

Situation resolved in fairly short order
