Since I have a teen who will be old enough to vote in her first election, I put together this list to help her and her brother (who's been voting for a few years) to be educated voters. However, I have a few holes in what information I can find. Can anyone help fill in information about the candidates who I can't find? Thanks!

Brazos County Attorney
A county attorney in Texas has the following duties:
Represents the state in prosecuting misdemeanor criminal cases
Works with law enforcement officers in the investigation of criminal cases
Provides legal advice to the Commissioners Court and to other elected officials
Brings civil enforcement actions on behalf of the state or county

Candidates:
Earl Gray (Rep) https://voteearlgray.com/
Freddie Medina (Dem) https://www.facebook.com/freddie4countyattorney/
This one frustrates me because I can't find information on Freddie Medina's platform. There's no central place for information on what direction he would want to take with his election to office.

Brazos County Sherriff
A sheriff in Texas has the following duties:
Serves as a licensed peace officer and is responsible for enforcing the criminal laws of the state
Manages and operates the county jail
Provides security for the courts
Serves warrants and civil papers
Regulates bail bondsmen in counties with no bail bond board

Candidates:
Wayne Dickey (Rep) https://www.waynedickyforsheriff.com/
Patrick Logan (Dem) https://www.facebook.com/Logan4Sheriff/
Video from Patrick https://www.houstonpublicmedia.org/elevator-pitch-tx/?fbclid=IwAR20X8U_YHZVMO-wK3-GKAcj549p4a4eKpYMO4bKRHGQSN0ukoAphCY1z-g#kamu
Clyde Garland (Lib) I can't find any information other than that he's running

College Station City Council
In a council-manager government, council members are the leaders and policy makers elected to represent various segments of the community. The council is the city's governing body. Council members are community service volunteers who are elected to concentrate on policy issues in response to the community's needs and wishes.

The council is the legislative body; its members are the community's decision-makers. Power is centralized in the elected council, which approves the budget and determines the tax rate, for example. The council also focuses on the community's goals, major projects, and such long-term considerations as: community growth, land-use development, capital improvement plans, capital financing, and strategic planning. The council hires and supervises a professional manager that carries out the administrative responsibilities.

This is good information, thanks. I would add with regards to the sheriff; this is the only LEO that answers directly to the voters. He is elected buy the voters, not hired or appointed by a city council, or a board of commissioners.

You can also put your address in at https://www.vote411.org/ to see your local races and read candidate responses to several policy questions.

Edit - they don't have any school board or city council races there, just state and federal races.

Actually, it only gives you the elections at the state representative level. Or at least that's what I got when I put in my address.

Yeah, I added a clarification there. It's just federal and state level races.

The local races are always hard to find info on. League of women voters used to be a great resource but they've become biased since I started voting many moons ago.

Just curious, but what have you seen to make you think their guides are biased? In the past, they just posted candidate responses to their questions.

I don't know that it's the League but the Republican candidates don't respond. Sad but true.

On Patrick Logan.

Other than the fact he has almost no experience in law enforcement.

If you are going to put yourself out there in the public eye and running for office. You should really take the time to clean up your social media. There is nothing wrong with some of these posts but they can easily be twisted especially when running for the top LEO position in the county. I know these posts are old but he has had plenty of time to scrub them from his Facebook.

I know the Aggieland board is highly moderated. If this is out of line - Just delete my post here and I'll post it over on Politics in a new thread.

If these are from the same Patrick Logan (it looks like they are) these are some pretty extreme viewpoints IMO.

Yes, those are from his Facebook page. You should be able to search for him on Facebook to confirm.

Taken by themselves from an average citizen, I think some of the posts are rather benign. When put in context for someone running for Sheriff, I agree.

It really shows poor judgement on his part. I know the odds of Brazos county electing a Democrat for this position are slim to none but I would think there would be more media coverage of candidates and maybe a little investigative reporting.
I'll add to your almost no experience in law enforcement statement, that to my knowledge Logan is a Detention Officer and he is NOT a licensed peace officer. He has a few years of experience working in the jail. He has no experience as a supervisor, no experience as a patrol deputy, no experience as an investigator. Like it has been said the chances of a Democrat being elected as a sheriff in this race is minimal but I would think that even our staunch Democratic voters would see that he is not a good choice for Sheriff.

Well you have a couple wrong imho on council. My guide is if the anti property rights, nimby, str is the devil group CSAN endorsed them, i will NEVER vote for them. Unfortunately the right choice is many times not the "nice guy". We have to many that will be nice when the right answer is the not nice one. Cunah is also nice but is the most fiscally responsible person in the race which we need badly on the council.
So my position is reelect no one to the cs council, time for new blood.

Why is everyone torn on place 5??

I thought it would be a landslide for Nichols...

What's going on?
UmustBKidding
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Basically because most are totally disgusted with the decisions of the current council. And Nichols therefore is part of the problem. He is probably the least objectionable of the incumbents. Alg basically has not put forth any positions I know of. Regan seems to think that the city's large debt on the permanent residents is not good (how can I disagree as one of them). Some say Nichols plan plays benefits the A&M system (his former employer) and Regan plan seem to favor the non student permanent residents.
Since my plan is not vote for anyone CSAN endorsed, Nichols will not be my choice.

I haven't had a lot of advertising, so it is understandable that many have not seen my message.

I think the pinned post on my Facebook page linked above lines things out pretty well.

We were also able to touch on a lot of issues in the Chamber forum. But I know that is a big time commitment. (it was 40 minutes for our race because there are 3 candidates).

https://wtaw.com/b-cs-chamber-of-commerce-forum-with-candidates-seeking-city-council-seats/

From the Eagle's write-up on the forum where they summarized my stance on economic development.

"Alg emphasized the need for recovery efforts to be done well, saying he does not want to give subsidies to businesses but wants to focus on making it easy for businesses to make a home in the city."

The Eagle's Editorial board write-up I think summarized my budget stance pretty well: "the city should stick to providing core services such as fire, police, trash collection and streets."

The other big issue that we went into in the forum but hasn't shown up much anywhere else is that I think the city should stop blocking sensible development near the university. Allowing complimentary housing (e.g., relatively dense housing for students and young professionals) and economic activity suited to the area around campus is a no-brainer. We have the world's easiest urban planning problem and the city government has regulated things in exactly the wrong way. This obviously causes unnecessary traffic problems. Less obvious is the fortune that is costing us in lost opportunities. That is real and massive but it largely goes unnoticed.

KBTX is going to do an interview with me that I think will be up sometime next week and the Eagle's reporter interviewed me and I think that write-up will be published in the next few days.

I would be happy to go into any other specific issues.
