We're looking to purchase a home in King Oaks. My wife and I both work from home and need reliable internet speeds. Ideally we'd have 50mbps down and 5-10mbps up.

We've looked at the FCC coverage maps and there appears to many options, but when you actually speak to the providers, our options are minimal (if any).

Anyone have more info on reliable/fast providers in the neighborhood?

King Oaks has fiber internet from Windstream and wireless from us (Brazos WiFi).

The fiber internet must be pretty good because we dont get many calls from people that already have it.

If your in-home wifi coverage is lacking after getting on with Windstream, let us know and we can provide some awesome options.

I emailed you the address. Would you be able to tell me if the location and elevation would work for you without needing a residential tower?

Windstream is telling me they can only offer 4mbps download and 1mbps upload right now in King Oaks for new customers.

I'll get that run through the elevation models Monday and let you know.

What's real crazy is I checked 1-2 weeks ago and I could have gotten 1 gigabit. Now only 4mbps. That is a HUGE difference.

Sounds like you might be talking to someone with Windstream who either doesn't know what they are talking about OR you're in a part of the development that doesn't have fiber run to it. That's DSL speeds they are giving you vs fiber.

Which phase of KO are you looking at buying into? Fiber conduit just recently went it about 6-8 months ago in the final phase around the lake so like others have said, it may just be delayed infrastructure.

OP, what did you decide to do? Are you building in King Oaks? We too are looking, but also would require better internet options for working from home.

You can cross reference your house search areas with Brazos WiFi's coverage area maps. You'll be happy with either option. Their wireless service is very good.

Here is some irony for you. We live about a mile and a half from Brazos Wifi's office, but get our signal from their King Oaks tower. It is all due to elevations and trees.

I am pleased with Brazos Wifi.

Thanks for bearing with us when the fibers were cut. Things were slow but almost everyone had service for the duration of the cut.

We're working on a plan so *this* type of event won't take us down again.

... I'm kidding, sorta :-)

Lol yep.
When our Dallas route was cut, the traffic did reroute through our Houston route successfully. The issue is that we utilize Suddenlink's fiber network in town to get from Fibertown in downtown Bryan to the tower sites.
This last mile fiber trunk was cut where it all comes together in downtown, knocking out a large part of our distribution backbone.
Luckily, we use other carriers for some distribution paths so we weren't completely down.

This exposed another weak link in using Suddenlink for anything mission critical.
