And this.

Bryan woman shares story of losing husband to COVID in hopes others will get vaccinated (kbtx.com)

The numbers have cratered, as was expected. One would think they would be happy, and especially the medical professionals would be, but it seems that they're not happy unless cases are sky high.

Let people smile a bit for right now. There may be another surge later, or that may have been it. No one has a clue either way, so running with the endless fear-porn just shows they have an agenda and it isn't honest reporting.

He says because not enough people have gotten vaccinated to reach herd immunity locally, there remains a lot of fuel that could easily ignite to cause a fifth surge.
It's awesome when the Doctors ignore the fact that the vaccinated can still catch, carry, and transmit the virus. If you are vaccinated you still need to do everything else that the unvaccinated need to do if you are trying to minimize your chance of spreading the virus. You just lessen your chances of a severe case if you catch it. Countries and states with herd immunity levels of vaccinations are seeing spikes in cases. Israel and Australia have interesting data to look at considering their vaccination levels and other mandates they have implemented.

Get vaccinated though, it is likely in your best interest if you are an adult. I would not say the same for kids..... If you are old or have underlying medical conditions and got your vaccine 6+ months ago, consider a booster.

I think I have the reason for stall in raw case investigations. With the number of true positive cases and hospitalizations declining, they are waiting for the right time to dump them all at once and declare a 'surge' in Covid cases to keep everyone in panic mode. /sarcasm

OK, with all due respect to those who are currently battling this (especially in ICU).....but we done.

We may get another round down the road as that seems to be a thing but we just hit single digits. We are always going to have new cases for the rest of time.

This thread should be labeled an "endemic." Lol.

Delta spike is definitely on the down slope. It'll all depend on another variant as to whether or not we see another one like it.

Just curious. Any reason for the number of available hospital beds jumping all over the place. I understand people in and out all the time, but going up 32 beds in 2 days and then back down 37 over the next two seems like huge swings.

Is it a staffing issue?

It's about hospital census and staffing. You want a certain amount of beds covered but you will go broke if there's a nurse available for every open bed.

Since we're dealing with all the hospitals in region N, there's going to be big swings depending on the staffing at each hospital.
TexAg1987

I haven't graphed it out, but it may be the cycle of people being discharged after a weekend and then filling up during the week as surgeries, etc. are performed then emptying out again over the weekend/ Monday.

Which makes that metric useless. This would indicate that they could ramp up staffing if the need increased.

What you would want to see is how much capacity is available if it was needed. 100% occupancy and staffing levels. If we just look at available scheduled staff, I would think that it would be pretty consistent with hospital policy for how they can afford to run their hospital.

Looks like they're going to continue to dump the old cases as "new." On that note, I would guess that some of the raw cases end up being tossed out because they were either false positives, or people being retested so they could go back to work, but still getting a positive test because enough of the dead virus is still in their nose and the PCR test picks it up.

How nice. Guess the KBTX headline will be that cases are surging and hospitalizations are increasing.
