My guess is frequent and spontaneous urination will only occur if the hospital networks get overwhelmed. I haven't talked to the folks at my clinic about it but I'm guessing they are at least talking about handling a surge.

Oof. Students are not even back yet. There is not ever a time for panic but this is eye opening. I know there are folks in ICU, I have heard of people getting checked into the hospital only to be released the next day, though.

We will see where this goes. Need to keep an eye on who is getting sick.

I wouldn't presume too much about the nature of the deceased. Things that were true pre-Delta are changing fast. More "young and healthy" getting seriously illperhaps not here just yet, but just a matter of time sadly.

I was at an outdoor bday thing last week (15 people), and three of my friends got breakthrough cases...so they are counted in the case numbers. All asymptomatic. Just got tested today as a precaution, given lots of coughing, sneezing, and fatigue.

Week of 7/5: 73 cases, 1,579 tests, 4.6%PCR
Week of 7/12: 113 cases, 2,009 tests, 6.1%
Week of 7/19: 204 cases, 3,745 tests, 5.5%
Week of 7/26: 275 cases, 4,673 tests, 5.9%
Week of 8/2: 291 cases, 4,261 tests, 6.8%
Week of 8/9: 482 cases, 4,706 tests, 10.2%

This past week was high, number of cases and weekly PCR%. I believe a lot of the results released this week were from tests given last week. If we say the recent delta surge began 4 weeks ago, then the PCR% for that 4 weeks combined is 7.4%, which is about 50% higher than previous PCR%.

Hopefully the surge has run its course and we won't get a new one until TAMU student/staff testing begins - so next week.

was wondering same.

have we peaked? Will get get a "peak" and a "bump" next week and then a dramatic drop off early-mid Sep.

Seems like the Delta pattern.

Subjectively - seems that we have likely peaked or the slope is decreasing toward a peak in Tx. I've talked to Austin and Houston docs last few days and they feel the same. Understand there may be local variations (students returning etc). Also - ICU numbers may worsen as the 7-14 day getting worse group of Covid goes there and either has a long recovery or doesn't recover.

That's exactly what we're seeing across the state. The ICU admits are generally healthier and younger than during last year's summer spike. They are having weeks long ICU stays.
cavscout96
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
So,

  • "natural" spike likely peaking
  • Student and A&M staff and faculty likely to precipitate "artificial" (for want of a better term) spike/bump
  • unknown impact on local MTFs
  • ICU stays anecdotally longer even in younger/healthier patients

if accurate, we'll likely see this extend until, what..... 10 SEP or so?

With commensurate level of hand wringing and arguing, of course...

I'm much more worried about ICU staying full than I am about community numbers.

Influx of students and football weekends means more trauma and we don't have the beds to treat the critically injured. We also can't transfer them out because all the places we would normally send them are also at their limits.

Makes sense.

Car wrecks + typical dumb stuff = ICU requirements. High COVID counts in ICU (due to rate and/or length of stay) reduce capacity.

So if you look at spike data in the UK - there was some fall off after their delta surge

https://graphics.reuters.com/world-coronavirus-tracker-and-maps/countries-and-territories/united-kingdom/

I'm just hoping we experience similar falloff soon - but they were 20% more vaccinated and had a lot more mandates / precautions so it will be interesting to see how well we do.
