Looks like they revised the hospitalization number and it is 13, which is what their site had yesterday. Thought the jump from 13 to 24 was questionable.

So, all the media outlets ran with the 24 hospitalized number yesterday, even though it was not correct.

Love how no one questioned a jump of 11 from the previous day.

This is on KBTX today:

"COVID in Context: Active cases trending down, but percentage hospitalized increasing in last month"

https://www.kbtx.com/2021/06/04/covid-in-context-active-cases-trending-down-but-percentage-hospitalized-increasing-in-last-month/

Of course, the graph shows 24 for yesterday.

And The Eagle today has this in its update:

"Ten Brazos County residents were hospitalized Friday for treatment of symptoms related to the virus, officials said, which is three fewer than the day before."

And yesterday it was this:

"Twenty-four Brazos County residents were hospitalized Thursday for treatment of symptoms related to the virus, officials said, which is 11 more than the day before."

5 weeks ago - 211 cases, 2 deaths
4 weeks ago - 187 cases, 2 deaths
3 weeks ago - 141 cases, 1 death
2 weeks ago - 93 cases, 1 death
Last Week - 92 cases, 1 death
This Week - 87 cases, 2 deaths

As much as the dire numbers were reported, I continue to feel the need to trumpet our much better numbers. Covid sucks, but I think we've gotten to manageable numbers (though a few weekly zeros would be nice).

And the media is back to leading with the active case count. Sigh.

From today on Twitter:

KBTX: Active cases rise to 220, 12 Brazos County residents hospitalized for COVID-19.

From Yesterday:

KBTX: Active cases rise above 200.

The Eagle: The number of active COVID-19 cases in Brazos County continued to climb on Monday after hitting a 13-month low last week.

Edit to say that I meant to use thumbs down emoticon. I are an idiot!

I just wish the BCHD could get their data reporting right. Currently, the data indicates its for yesterday, with yesterdays incident number of cases (33). However, the number of total cases is today's number of cases of 23,642, not yesterday's number of cases of 23,605. Frustrating

That is because there are some that don't seem to want to get back to normal as evidenced by this thread. Let's keep it alive.

And last night 10 of the first 15 minutes of KBTX's 10PM newscast was nothing but coronavirus.

WTAW will of course do the exact same thing, make it sound like we're on the verge of being wiped out.

The media take their lessons from the motherships who drive clicks and attention through sensationalizing mundane stuff. It's a miserable existence for everyone involved.

Anyone see KBTX's tweet this morning for their COVID in Context story?

"In the past week, we've seen as few as two ICU beds available."

Then, in the story there is this line:

"Unfortunately, there are still days in recent weeks during which less than five ICU beds were available in the Brazos Valley."

These numbers aren't because of COVID, are they? The total BV residents hospitalized was at 16 yesterday. Am I missing something?

It's not necessarily because of COVID. I'm longing for the days where we're not freaking out about available ICU beds. When bonfire collapsed, people were sent all over the place because our community didn't have enough icu beds available. There will never be a time when the ICU beds are all unoccupied, pandemic or not.

Right there with you, Belton. I am just scratching my head trying to figure out why they would even choose to highlight those numbers other than fear.

I guess I am just getting really burned out on the whole thing. Of course, I am sure everyone is after more than a year.

Normal ICU census is 85-90% occupied. That's how hospitals make money on critical care.

I like the 0 deaths reported, and not too concerned about the slight uptick in new cases. Was bound to happen.
