Maybe they could institute a mandatory campus book burning while they're at it.....

Which means they're going to find a bunch of minor or asymptomatic cases, and someone will claim the cause is removing the mask mandate.

This isn't some conspiracy, it is a response to the large case clusters in the corps that have been going on for a couple of weeks now before the mask mandate was even lifted. At least they are not shutting things down completely like Duke. People have been calling for all corps activities to cease for the rest of the semester, instead of taking that drastic step admin is just enforcing testing. Not a big deal.

There is no enforcement mechanism

It seems like there probably is an "enforcement mechanism"... if a student doesn't "log in to the Howdy Portal" and satisfy survey/test status input info, I'm guessing their account is flagged and potentially put on hold or whatever before returning to class by the deadline.

No. It says something potentially more strict. It says they can be referred to Student Services for a conduct violation.

They did this to start the semester and are doing it now for a clean snapshot.

"May" is not the same as "will," at least in any dictionary I've ever opened.

Even if they go to SCO, how serious do you think the sanction would be?

Do you think SCO will prioritize this over hazing, sexual assault, Title IX? Unlikely.

Paper tiger.

They are students and when they agreed to the admissions process they agreed to follow the schools guidelines and procedures. If you are a student and don't want to do what they ask, take your chances. Or attend a school that doesn't ask you to do these things. Of course good luck finding one as most are doing the same thing.

It's no different than the school telling employees to do it to start the semester. You could ignore the directive of the school. That "paper tiger" was the threat of being written up. Or for that matter if the Army said "take a test" where I suspect no choice is even given.

It's an infectious disease that transmits pretty rapidly in group contacts. They want to see what is happening in their student population after those students had a chance to commingle for a period of time and as they come back to live and work together in close quarters

Agreed. It would be interesting to know if they had significant comorbidities that put them at higher risk for severe disease and death?

Based on the overall statistics we've seen from around the country and Europe, it is highly likely that they did.

While there are always exceptions (the flu kills perfectly healthy people every year), it is highly likely that most if not all of them did.

1. Students aren't soldiers

2. Students aren't employees

3. Not sure there is a student rule or SAP that covers testing. I could be wrong.

3. None of what you wrote changes the fact that SCO isn't going to waste a bunch of time chasing folks who didn't take COVID tests.

Are you the type who believes non-compliance will "go on your permanent record?"

cavscout96

I wrote all of the above knowing full well that it is purely a mental exercise.

The truth is, most of the students will comply.

The logically fallacy is that so many think it matters.

First, the testing is of little real value. Second, no one is going to chase people down to make the spit in a tube.

Good on TAMU for mandating the testing. Simple, common sense and the right decision.

Don't freak when they put out tomorrow's numbers. Looks like Curative failed to report more than 2,000 positives between Jan and March.

Yep, there will be several people who read the headlines tomorrow and don't realize it is due to a reporting foul up.

and that's assuming they were testing 7 days/week

39/day if testing 6 days/week
46/day if testing 5 days/week
48/day if testing 5 days/week and not testing on MLK Day and President's Day

(I was bored)
