I also love how the ugly infographic has the 94% hospital occupancy listed like that's important.

Lol. I just figured there was something in the TA user agreement that mandated the term "fear porn" be used once per page.

And 90 of the 112 are in the 18-24 year range.

Test numbers are up because this is one of the weeks TAMU is encouraging everyone to be tested.

Someone refresh my memory b/c I don't feel like searching thru previous pages of this thread..

I was thinking that A&M and the BCHD were reporting numbers separately. Are the A&M numbers rolled into the county numbers?

They are counted in the county numbers if they are a permanent resident.

So BCHD only includes positive A&M cases when the students are permanent residents, but they must be including all of A&M's total tests number.

I don't think so.

They are likely doing more than 2k tests/day on campus.

Not trying to be combative, but your statement above led me to believe that the test numbers posted by MiMi were up b/c they included A&M tests.

It is also curious to me that 79% of the new cases are in the 18-24yo age group, but the only A&M students in that group are permanent residents.

That's how they are supposed to be counting them. Hell, they may be counting anyone who listed their local address whether or not it's their permanent address. I've given up trying to figure out what they do vs what they say.

I don't think we have a disproportionate number of non-student residents in that age bracket, so I guess the ones we do have must all be going to the same parties.

If a test is taken in the county, and that test is positive, it is reported as a positive test in that county. It doesn't matter whether it was an A&M test kiosk or a hospital or a clinic or whatever. Test taken in county and positive = positive test case in that county.

I drove by Northgate last night, on the way home, and saw several large groups of revelers heading to the bars sans masks and tightly packed. Given mid-term exams were last week, and this would normally be Spring Break, I suppose that's to be expected, but it'll be interesting to see if a spike in cases results from the Governor allowing things to go back to pre-COVID conditions this early in the vaccination program.

Thousands upon thousands of students have been partying without masks from the beginning of this pandemic. The only spikes are when they actually go get tested and are part of the corps or a sorority or other group like that and they find a cluster. Most students never get tested even when they think they have it. They'll all be fine and life will go on as normal.

MANDATORY COVID-19 STUDENT TESTING PROGRAM BEGINS MARCH 23

Quote:

MANDATORY COVID-19 STUDENT TESTING PROGRAM BEGINS MARCH 23
March 15, 2021, 10:30 a.m. CDT
Requirement Applies to Three Subsets of Bryan-College Station Campus Population
Dear Aggie Students:
A mandatory student testing program in the Bryan-College Station (B-CS) area will take place beginning Tuesday, March 23. This impacts the following three groups:
[ol]
  • All students residing in university housing on the B-CS campus to test for COVID-19 March 23-24;
  • All student employees working on the B-CS campus and nearby university Health Science Center buildings to test for COVID-19 March 25-29;
  • All students in courses which are only offered face-to-face at the campus to test for COVID-19 March 29-April 2.
  • [/ol]These students should consult the COVID-19 Testing Locations Page for extended hours and drive-thru options to be added for those dates.
    National and local epidemiologists have advised us to conduct a round of testing to identify any and all SARS-CoV-2 infections in order to quickly isolate cases, including those people who are asymptomatic and have not yet started to show signs of illness.
    "We are seeing a dramatic uptick at some campuses nationally and want to do all we can to reduce risk of similar spread here," said Shawn Gibbs, dean of the School of Public Health at Texas A&M and COVID-19 lead for the university. "One more round of mandatory testing this semester will help us quickly isolate students, slow spread, increase our odds for in-person athletic events, The Big Event, graduation ceremonies, and other student activities."
    This strategy proved very effective following a Halloween uptick and in managing return-to-spring health and safety. St. Patrick's Day is followed almost immediately by a three-day holiday weekend for A&M faculty, students and staff a time when events known to have behaviors that contribute to the spread of the virus can take place. This also helps to reduce burden on area hospitals by slowing spread.

    Which means they're going to find a bunch of minor or asymptomatic cases, and someone will claim the cause is removing the mask mandate.

    This isn't some conspiracy, it is a response to the large case clusters in the corps that have been going on for a couple of weeks now before the mask mandate was even lifted. At least they are not shutting things down completely like Duke. People have been calling for all corps activities to cease for the rest of the semester, instead of taking that drastic step admin is just enforcing testing. Not a big deal.
    Rapier108
    How long do you want to ignore this user?
    Didn't say it was a conspiracy. I said that some will use more testing finding more cases to blame it on the governor's decision.

    Edit: Although, this gives me pause because it is coming from the CDC, Fauci, and others in the federal government. D.C. will politicize everything and have a vested interest in finding more cases in Texas.
