how hard is it to have a spreadsheet with the date, number of tests performed that day, and the positive/negative counts??

It has to be more involved than that to match tests with results. They all come back at varying intervals.
yes, they must be correlated to provide useful data, but it isn't that hard.

What's more involving about listing how many tests are performed each day and their subsequent result?

Because they don't all come back in the same time period. Positives typically come back faster than negatives. Different tests take different times to develop.

You would have to have someone checking each positive to find the testing date it matches.

Yeah. Results come in. Update database. Not hard.

We can't even get them to follow up with real live people to clear them as active cases.

Crazy concept, I know. Thinking out of the box only applies at the "big school" not the locals.

I'd be happy with a simple count. Tests given. Positive numbers. Negative numbers.

108/127 (85%) under the age of 50? That's good.

I'm curious as to what the cluster is given that age distribution

Seems like the odds favor a college aged group

Too many new cases. Not good! Vaccine on the way!

Number of cases is irrelevant. If we tested every person in the county at once, we'd find thousands of cases, most of whom had no idea they had it. The hospitals are not overrun and never have been.

You are not going to stop a virus from spreading, pure and simple.

As always, thank you for keeping the spreadsheet updated, lockett.

observation related to the youngest demographic:
in the past month (since 11/14), the number of cases in the 0-9yo group has increased by 83 from 269 to 352, and almost half of that increase (39 -- over 10% of total) has been added in the past 5 days.

Probably asymptomatic kids which were tested as part of contact tracing.

My wife and I tested positive the same day on a Tuesday. My kids had no symptoms. That Sunday night my oldest (9) ran a fever so we had him tested. He was positive. My youngest (7) was tested the next day with no symptoms and was positive.

I think kids were exposed at family gatherings on Thanksgiving. I had symptoms starting the Tuesday before I was tested. Thought it was a sinus infection

I wonder what the drop looks like over Christmas break.

Keep powering through. We have started on campus classes and housing this semester, had a modified football season, seen new case numbers blow up, etc.

To this point, we have not had additional shut downs, so that's good. We have also seen additional pressure on the hospitals, but it appears as though this is under control. I mean, we were bringing people in from El Paso for a while there, weren't we?

All this to say - keep pushing boundaries. We have to do it or else we all live in some sort of state of paralysis forever. We will get past this new case surge and, once again, learn a lot about how to deal with it moving forward.

anyone have some insight into what's going on in Grimes county? It looks like Navasota ISD has shut down for the remainder of the semester (this week). KBTX throws out a few possibilities, but no real data behind the decision.

I don't think reporting "cluster" means a single cluster.

It could mean a single cluster, but it could mean part of existing clusters.

It could also mean several small clusters.

It would be statistically impossible to have no more than 1 common cluster per day, each time "cluster" is reported. Testing results from one "cluster" might takes weeks to report at different times for different people.

Also, how many people are needed to call it a "cluster" event?

Subjective stuff.
