I'm in 77802...curious what's going on here. I've seen one large-ish student age party around graduation, but that's about it.

We're in 77803. Lots of big family and friend gatherings around our neighborhood over the last month or so.

If you type in 77802, it is a large section of Bryan.

I'd guess most if not all the recent 77802 cases were 1-2 residential clusters.

Looks like part of the new cluster is related to Sanderson farms.

Quote:

As of Monday morning, at least 26 COVID-19 cases in Brazos County were linked to Sanderson Farms and its employees, according to records kept by the Brazos County Health District.

Dr. Seth Sullivan on Monday afternoon during a news briefing estimated between 10 to 15 of the cases were reported in the last week. He also said the company has been cooperative with the Brazos County Health District in tracking and monitoring patients and their contacts.

62 cases connected to Sanderson Farms, either directly or people who were infected by those who work there. 27 employees have infected at least 35 others, and probably safe to say some others.

I'd say this explains much of the spike last week.

Tyson has been hit very hard by the virus.
Every major US processor of chicken, beef, and pork have been hit hard by covid, so it doesn't really matter from which company or which meat you purchase. Good news is the virus doesn't transmit through meat or any kind of food that is cooked. Thoroughly wash what you eat as raw food as well.

An un-named female anchor on KBTX seriously presented a story about concerns of Covid-19 contaminated chicken, to then be told "zero evidence found by the USDA/FDA that the virus could spread through processing'.
She may have thought "well darn, that story was supposed to be scary for longer than 30 seconds..."..

I can't find it right now, but I think I recall an article from a couple of weeks ago which said that there were something like 45 residents and staff members of the Waterford who were positive.

So we have 62 cases from Sanderson Farms, which includes 27 employees and even more than that outside the plant who caught it from those employees.

How many of the cases in the community are from the 45 residents/staff members of the Waterford? Why isn't the media pushing the health department to come clean about this?

If I'm right about the 45 cases at the Waterford, and if we assume they passed it to family members and the community at the same rate as the Sanderson Farms employees, we take 62/27*45 = 103 total cases from the Waterford (45 residents/staff, 58 additional family/community members infected).

Between the Waterford and Sanderson Farms, we then have 62+103 total cases = 165 out of 341 total cases in this county -- roughly half.

Why then the doom and gloom from Sullivan and other officials? They should instead be making the point that a little outbreak at a facility can turn into a huge one if proper contact-tracing and immediate mitigation steps are not taken.

I'm not certain there were that many family related exposures from the Waterford. The facility was already closed to visitors. It would have only been people exposed to the workers who tested positive not the residents.

It was 45 cases (32 residents and 13 staff) when KBTX reported it on 4-15. Probably didn't go much higher as by that point they appear to have locked it down pretty good.

On The Waterford, we can assume many of the residents didn't spread it much, except perhaps other people in the facility and maybe a few family members depending on when they locked it down and the first case appeared. The staff would be far more likely to have spread it to people in the general population so they would have caused less community spread than people working at Sanderson Farms would have given the number of cases at each location.

Because its been doom and gloom since day one, and they're not going to change at this point.

Just announced on KBTX.

Four employees and two residents of Parc at Traditions have tested positive for the coronavirus.

This would make the second nursing home in B/CS to have confirmed cases. This would be at least some of the recent 77807 cases.

According to the info we were given, that employee who tested positive three weeks back hadn't been working on site in a while and therefor had limited exposure to residents. The health dept came out and made recommendations on who should be tested and those they tested all came back negative. This newest outbreak(?) is supposedly unrelated - different employees brought the virus in without knowing it. Waiting on test results now.

I am actually really excited about the fact that most cases are cluster related. We same to have VERY little sustained community spread looking at the current active cases. I wish they would report how many of these cluster cases are still active.

In our region of roughly 100k we have just over 100 active cases so 0.1% of the population. Pretty impressive and likely to go up because it cannot go down much more.

Likely the large number is due to a batch of positives in a workplace testing. Just a guess, but makes sense.

Positive cases is very highly correlated with the number of tests. Very hard to parse out whether actual cases increased or you just caught more of the cases with the increase in tests.

Hospitalization is the important thing, really all that matters. With that number being stable, I'm feeling really good.

I wonder how much our mercifully low rate is a function of students being out of town. I guess we'll know in the fall...

Agree the low hospitalization rate is excellent news, esp since maybe people who have had to put off non-COVID health issues can get them addressed.

That's a big miscalculation. Changes the positivity numbers substantially.
