August will go down as the second worst month this year for deaths (Jan = 58 & Feb = 25), as it now appears it will end up averaging more than 1 death per day.

August currently at 29, by date of death.

Does anybody know the number of people who died im Brazos County from things other than Covid?

Perspective! That's pretty important. I'll be interested to see the death breakdown by days for august that gets posted here. Originally we were told that the Delta variant was more contagious but not necessarily more deadly. From my recollection, I've know more younger people to pass in recent months than I recalled from last year. I don't have all the data to verify that.

Deaths are terrible, but death happens for a host of other medical reasons. We've just focused in on this one as more terrible in our present circumstances, right or wrong.

Yeah its mostly just curiosity because so many deaths especially younger ages are people with obesity/diabetes/ etc and I was just curious if we are having more deaths than normal overall.

If you'll remind me next week while I'm on vacation, I'll run down the 2019 death stats. I'm not certain exactly where to look but I'll bet I can find them.

I did a quick Google search on Brazos County death rates. They are only available online on the DSHS website up to 2017. In 2017, there were 982 deaths with a crude death rate of 440.8 per 100,000 population. Finalized death data for 2018 and 2019 and preliminary data for 2020 is available upon request by sending an email to them.

While it looks like TAMU cases are leveling off, it will be interesting to see how things look as the September 10 testing deadline looms.

trouble, do you think this is still the same pediatric patient that was first discussed on 8/30? if so, they've been there at least 8-9 days now.

at what age is one no longer considered to be a pediatric patient?

I would assume it's the same one.

It really depends on the hospital. When I worked at Brack, over 16 was an adult patient.

Did I hear this right...

Of the 280 or so deaths in Brazos Co none of them were vaccinated?

If I did hear that right, its obviously a pretty big testament to the vaccine.

The TAMU numbers and the deadline are a joke
.
False positives that are getting appealed because they are getting re-tested by personal physicians.
Positives by students that have had Covid and are getting residual results when they shouldn't even be getting tested because of the time frame
Students getting quarantined even though they are outside of the contact tracing times
Students that aren't contact quarantining because they aren't telling the truth about contact tracing and are asymptomatic
Students that tested during Howdy Week and were negative and then got exposed later are now positive.

The only thing that it's doing is giving the school the ability to say "We are testing" for legal coverage.

I got the shot and I am not "anti vaccine".

That information is not correct.

even if it is technically correct, its a bit of a straw man since MANY of the deaths occurred before the vaccine was widely available locally.

I actually agree with Stupe here. TAMU would have been better served by purchasing in bulk and distributing home Covid testing kits to students, staff and faculty. Student fees which go to so much useless stuff could perhaps help cover this. Students could test on class days and get quick results to let them know if they should attend or quarantine. Yeah it has problems but can't be worse than the current system.

I'm not sure those home test kits are very reliable at this point.

One of our docs told me that they've completely stopped using the fast antigen tests--a lot of false negatives, and a lot of patients coming in after getting a positive at home and then getting a negative on the PCR test. The idea sounds good in theory, but maybe not in practice.

Well that sucks. And yet people are snapping them up all over town like TP during spring 2020.

But maybe they are useful to a point?
