Did a search and found some threads about where to buy shrubs, but thought I'd get the B/CS braintrust thoughts on what shrubs work good for this area. We've got a couple of beds that have gone awry in front of our house that I'd like to take everything out of and replace with a some ~3 foot or so shrubs/plants.

What do y'all like/have/etc.

Hope this helps. The second website is good, because our water here is salty.

Just stick some Pride of Houston youpons in the ground and be done with it. Shrubs around here take lots of good soil amendments. If you want to know what average shrubs look like around here, inspect the ones at the edge of the parking lots. You don't want that.

I don't know why the extension office link still includes nandina/ heavenly bamboo. Please don't plant it, it's invasive and a pain to control in native preserved areas, and it kills cedar waxwings.

Circle D Nursery in Bryan is open to the public on Saturdays. They have a great selection of native plants that can do well here. The prices are well below Lowe's or Home Depot.

Some that are doing well for me:
Purple fountain grass
Sunshine Ligustrum
Texas Sage

Yaupons are kind of boring but get the job done.

My personal favorites: esperanza - its deciduous semievergreen and grass clusters like big muhly or purple fountain grass

Yeah, I figured we'd go there. My wife went once and said there wasn't really anyone there to talk to or anything about it so trying to do some pre-research so I at least kinda know what I'm talking about before I go.

I was second guessing my spelling and I googled it. Youpon came up as a legit spelling. The googles must redirect you to searches like ones in your history.

I have had good luck with Wheeler's Dwarf Pittosporum I bought at Discount Trees of Brenham and SiteOne Landscape and Supply on Highway 30. Everything I have bought from Lowes or Home Depot has died.
