I'm not a wildlife biologist nor expert of any sort but I am originally from the Trans-Pecos area where there are bigger cats. Brazos County has such small tracts of land covering it I find it hard to believe there's no real evidence as someone above suggested.

Should have clarified, my apologies.

The everyday life I was referring to wasn't cat related. It was related to off duty police that had cars equipped with sirens/cop engines/ lights. Some idiots said that nobody has cars like that.

It wasn't worth arguing, but next time you see an road accident, I bet you that you will see an off duty cop that got there first and is already assisting.

I understand that a certain species of cat is not likely, but there are other cats in the area.

My family has been here a long time and I've been in those woods since I was a kid. I know what the bobcats look like because I have seen them getting busy making more bobcats. I also know what a golden retiever looks like because my family used to be heavily involved in the dog show circuit. Canid prints have claw marks because their claws do not retract. Large prints with no claw marks come from felids. Prints with a fluffy border are made by gray foxes. Bob cat prints look just like feral cat prints but a little bigger. What I've been finding are felid prints of a size comparable to a Saint Bernard.

As for coywolves, there is such a thing as the eastern coywolf, but that is not what we have. You'll find coyotes the size of German shepherds around here. We already know coyotes and wolves have been hybridizing (de-speciation in action). DNA testing near Houston says ours are coyotes mixed with red wolves. That would explain the coyotes being so big, running in packs of 5-8 members, and having odd calls and coat colors. Their howls don't match wolves or coyotes, but are something in between. www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/houston/amp/Galveston-photographer-s-discovery-led-to-13545686.php

30 years on 30 acres of heavily wooded and undeveloped land... I know what's out here, and how things have changed. We used to have a lot of turkey buzzards, for example, but not anymore. The droughts pushed the black vultures and other animals out of their old territories, and those animals have pushed out some other species.

What was true is not assured to remain true. Animals speciate and de-speciate. They migrate and their territories shift. You don't think of this place as gator country yet there are some well known alligators around. Black bears and mountain lions disappeared from even west Texas for a while, but they came back to Big Bend 15 years ago and have been spreading eastward since.

I have no reason to believe we have a substantial population of mountain lions. They have large territories. But we do seem to have more than zero. Small population of a shy, stealthy animal means you won't just see them wandering across campus.

Keep your eyes and your mind open.

30 acres will not support a mountain lion. Do have any pictures of these tracks? If it was confined to 30 acres you could easily get as many pictures as you wanted with a game camera.

Why would it be confined to those 30 acres? Are you under the assumption that properties north of Bryan are all high fence?

There is no mountain lion roaming Brazos County, but talk to the wildlife specialist folks around here if you want to know more.

Thread will continue to get hits of course so bravo for cryptozoology.

A tad far from Brazos County but I suppose it could wander down 45.

Don't be a troll. Trinity and Navasota and Brazos bottoms pretty continuous. It works for one. It works for all. Not saying it happens frequently. But it can and likely does happen. Or you could just be as unintelligent as you are on other post in this forum. Your call. Or just be like Momma said. You've established yourself well.

The OP asked about a mountain lion in the Wixon Valley/Kurten area. Dallas is a tad far north of that.

But but but, he said its impossible for one to be here. Your articles and proof that they travel great distances and pretty much can be anywhere must be categorically false, because FlyRod knows what he is talking about.

Never said it's impossible for one to be here. Merely that we have yet to see tracks, scat, non-blurry verified pics, etc. That thing called "evidence."

The first two pages of this thread are full of skeptics too, with some nice detailed posts.

Pretty sure your post before this one also said finding bigfoot would be as likely as finding a mountain lion in this area...

You have a bobcat, or a stray golden retriever. There are no mountain lions in this area, unless some idiot was keeping one as a pet and abandoned it.

I'd be delighted if tangible evidence for either were presented for Brazos County. But alas.

Well I lived in south texas and hunted one of the large ranches down there for over 30 years. There were always rumors of big cats but never believed it till we saw one. Then later on someone hit one that was 9ft from nose to tail tip. So could they be up here... sure. But they are very hard to spot. A dog around here unless small will normally be okay with bobcats or coyotes. But they are on the menu. Although they prefer cats a they pose less of an injury threat. They want a meal not a wound. my guess is your dog will show up somewhere at some point.

Whatever it is, the pack just woke up for the night between Pebble Creek and the Crossing at Lick Creek.
It was beautiful to hear, and whatever is out there, there are a lot of them.
