Hi guys,

I'm looking for the elementary schools in College Station for my kid. So far I am mainly based on ranking and reviews from greatschools.com and nichie.com to get the information as I do not know anyone who has kids at school age in College Station to ask for.
I'm considering 3 options: Rock Prairie; Forest Ridge; and Pebble Creek elementary school.
Did anyone here ever have any experiences or have kids going to those schools? Please let me know your advise. Thank you very much.

What elementary school are you zoned for? Or are you considering moving to a residence within the attendance zone of your preferred school?

Yes, I have to find school in advance so that I can move in school zone later

sorry, double reply.
Yes, I have to find school first and then I will move in school attendance zone.

There's the IL Texas charter school you can consider and you can live just about anywhere in BCS. They don't offer school bus transportation though.

All 3 schools you mentioned are excellent. Our daughter went to Rock Prairie. Everyone was amazing with her. She was battling cancer and is blind. The entire school, including parents, were super supportive and worked hard to help her achieve her full potential.

Rock Prairie is a good school with great neighborhoods nearby, and our family did very well there. Loved being close to the doctor/dentist from the school for appts. We called ahead and did short campus tours at our top three before we decided, but that may no longer be an option. They have always had a nice mix of younger and older teachers of varying styles which worked well for our family. The enrichment specialist is really engaged with her students as well, and my youngest enjoyed her enthusiasm (especially for his wild ideas). We prefer living in the middle of town where RP is located but also have never minded buying a larger older home as opposed to a new build.

*mr83mt88--I remember your child, great attitude, great kiddo. Will echo your sentiment regarding the other two elementary schools in that they are also good. Both have solid PTO and volunteer help.

Not in your three but we love Greens Prairie.

Pebble Creek was a good experience because it's not as crowded as the other two schools. My kids loved it there. All three of them would be good - I would be more concerned about finding a house you like for the right price.

Just chiming in to agree with the above posters. Every elementary school...EVERY school in CSISD is an excellent school.

This.

I've had kids at three different elementary schools and was pleased with the teachers at each one.

I agree with the above about great local schools. As many here know I had issue with our last rezone and some of the school board. Happy Some things have changed now.

So far the rezones have mostly been higher up but keep in mind buying where the school is can change and rezone seems to be a potential moving forward with rapid growth and a constant desire to level the field all the time. We did buy where we wanted for school and that didn't work out well for us as the table was turned. Yes I'm bitter but less daily. Just hate to see somebody else think buying a house in a zoned location allows you control of what is best for your kid.

Also as others know I have been a huge advocate of the charter school since. I often ask myself if it was my being upset at school district or just that I like it so well. As time has passed and I have cooled down I still really like what the charter offers. Just last night out child was saying foods in Chinese and the rest of family was guessing. I think CS schools are rated very high for good reason. I also think the charter has stronger points in some things and weaker in others. If college sports is your goal charter may not be right spot but other than that we love the charter and it has completely changed one of our kids lives. We originally chose it as it gave us control of our kids education and not a PR firm or local vocal group like public was subjected to.

Best of luck to you and your kids. I also hope now with change some of the pain of last rezone will ease and more thought will be given to future rezone issues. I agree buy the house you feel is best investment. Don't sacrifice for the school you want to attend.

My daughter started at Spring Creek this year and I am impressed with the faculty, staff, and facilities.

I had the privilege of being a 'Watch Dog' in her school which meant I was able to tour the school, visit with classes, help out, and spend a day on campus. Every grade is fully equipped with top tier technology as a whole and in each class.

Overall, I think you'll find every school, including the older ones such as South Knoll, College Hills, and Southwood Valley are all excellent and have been upgraded to provide fantastic learning facilities for your little one.

You ought to look more for a home that meets your criteria first and then see what schools that house is zoned for more than worrying about your elementary out of the gate.

As stated, every school in CSISD is great to excellent.

I highly recommend South Knoll. It was awesome when I went there from 1970-75 for grades 1-5! It was brand new and on the far southern edge of College Station. Only other one was College Hills.

I completely agree with that statement.

Don't even look at what high school the neighborhood is zoned for now. There will be a third by the time your kids are that age and there is no telling what the zoning will be for the neighborhoods.

Edit: That isn't a shot at the School Board, it's just a fact.
