Heading out to Florida tomorrow (about halfway between Destin and Panama City) and trying to come up with a game plan for stops. We've made the trip before but stops are always impromptu and chaotic, so I'm trying to plan ahead this time. We'll be in the Lake Charles area around lunch and Mississippi/Alabama around dinner. Anyone know of any good/safe/easy places to stop and eat in those areas maybe with an outdoor space for kids?

We generally stick with Chick fil a on trips like that. Even when they're crowded they get you through the lines fast, and the food is consistent no matter what state you're in.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Only problem is the one in Lake Charles is off the highway a bit. Not a big deal but was hoping for something more convenient.

I believe there is a CFA right off of the loop (210). Won't really lose much time taking the loop and that is where more of the restaurants and businesses are located. I-10 in Lake Charles just has the refinery, water, casino, and mainly old residential.

If you take the loop in Lake Charles just bypass Chick Fil A and take the Ryan St exit and go to Darrells and get your self a Darrells Special.. Thank me later!

Not a restaurant but Bass Pro in Denham Springs Louisiana is a nice stop with a neat pond inside with a pretty big alligator snapping turtle and ducks that just kind of walk around the store. Also a cool tank with a walkway in front. Also a Buccees right before the Alabama/Florida state line.

This is the best advice on this thread, and perhaps this site.

If it's open, stop in Jennings, LA and hold the baby gators. It's free and fun!

A little further down the road from Lake Charles, but definitely worth the stop for great food.

Grab some sandwiches at Bucees then stop at the visitor center in Lake Charles. Nice green area and a small gator pen and good bathrooms.

You could stop at the Tiger stop near Baton Rouge and look at the sore nuts on the camel. ha ha

Big waste just going to CFA what with some of the best cajun and seafood along that route.

And If dead set on CFA I'm Pretty certain there is a CFA across the interstate from that Bass Pro Shop.

But as mentioned above there are some pretty good restaurants along that route especially in louisiana

Darrels is awesome and there are many more great restaurants off of loop 210 in Lake Charles, but be advised that the 210 bridge is under construction and only one lane each way. Hitting that at the wrong time can add 40-60 minutes to your drive. My advice is to take the I10 bridge, go past Lake Charles and go to Rabineaux in Iowa or Boudin King in Jennings, or hundreds of other places along I10.

Steamboat Bill's is also on I10 (Lake Charles) - good place. Ate at Seafood Palace too. It's a locals place.

Darrell's is awesome. Definitely worth the stop.
