Signs went up almost immediately after 60/Stotzer was opened saying Construction to begin on the 28th. Signs at Olson Blvd on one end and just inside Harvey Mitchell Pkwy on the other. This does NOT include the Bush/Wellborn intersection.

Is this to deal with the issues on the right hand lanes on both sides? Or ??

Texas Avenue will also have work, TxDOT claims it will be complete by September.

From an email I received:

Quote:

BRAZOS COUNTY Beginning Tuesday, May 28, 2019, the Texas Department of Transportation's (TxDOT) contractor will begin concrete pavement repair work on both BS-6R (Texas Avenue) and FM 2347 (George Bush Drive).

Texas Avenue between George Bush Drive and FM 2818 south will have various outside lane closures during the day in both north and southbound directions. At nighttime, the middle of Texas Avenue in both directions will be closed. This work on Texas Avenue is expected to be complete by August.

On George Bush Drive, one lane of travel in each direction will remain open while work is performed first on the eastbound lanes and then in the westbound lanes between FM 2818 and Penberthy Road. This work on FM 2347 is expected to be complete by September.

Motorists who travel these areas should obey all traffic control signs, watch for workers and equipment in the roadway, and expect some minor delays.

This $6-million concrete pavement work is contracted to Main Lane Industries Ltd. TxDOT and their contractor appreciate everyone's patience during this construction.

Per an email from A&M's transportation folks:

Any bets on whether or not it'll actually be finished before the students show back up in mid-August?

I'm assuming this is only the first phase of the proposed plans for Bush/Welborn?

Just goes to show you what a better job the George Bush paving is from the Texas Avenue paving. The George Bush Drive concrete section, completed prior to the library's opening in 1997, has held up great for years and only now is showing definite signs of age. Texas Avenue was barely completed less than a decade ago and already has chunks of concrete missing, especially southbound between George Bush and Manuel.

No not at all related. Bush Wellborn will not start for about 5 years...

Seriously?? It's already been in the works for several years. Why five more before they even start?

I would venture to say that Texas Ave has much more traffic, including large trucks.

On a different topic, perhaps TxDOT could do something about the stop light congestion of Texas Ave. I would suggest they close (right turn only) the stop lights an Manuel, Brentwood and Lone star for starters.

They are doing 2818 first, and that starts next fall.
My guess is they will close GB/wellborn right after football season and hope to have it back open by the following season. They need the extra capacity on 2818 to handle the traffic issues closing bush/wellborn will create.

Appreciate the info. I wondered which one would come first. From the renderings, it certainly appeared like Bush/Welborn was going to take more time and require more phases. Makes sense to widen 2818 first.
