Cotton Patch FTW. Cajun CFS at Razzoo's is also excellent.

Longhorn Tavern and Feed Barn used to be great, but not any longer.

Yeah, those 2 are prolly the best in town. That's a shame though, being in Texas, that we don't have more good chicken fried steak places here. I remember, back in the day as a kid, eating chicken fried steak at a place called Wehrman's Cafe on what used to be called 25th St. in downtown Bryan back in the late 60's, early 70's. Still the best chicken fried steak I have ever eaten.

Ronin's I hear is pretty good but pricey.
Cotton patch serves our needs
Koppe Bridge is good but is hit or miss sometimes because how flat it is and how long it is fried
Longhorn has dipped in last few years
Top of the Hill makes a chicken fried steak smothered fries so I am sure they have chicken fried steak (just always got the burger). It is good but can be a bit over peppery if you don't want that

Sodolak's.

Still don't understand how you serve CFS without mashed potatoes...(Longhorn)

Sodolak's is pretty good and on the lunch special.

Top of the Hill I don't believe has one. But the CFS fries are amazing!

The Kenney Store outside Brenham does country fried ribeye. Haven't had it but have heard great things.

Strangely enough, Roadhouse. They have brown gravy(you have to ask for it). The CFS is big enough for about three people and delicious!

Sodolaks and Longhorn are both really good.

Salt Grass is pretty good too.

Koppe Bridge is dark horse candidate. Enormous portions.

I was thinking The Cow Hop back in the day also. Loved their CFS sandwich with gravy.
Let's go ski-man!

I got these today based on your post and they were absolutely delicious. It made me want to lay down for about an hour after, so you know it was good eating. That's a once every few months meal though, whew.

Longhorn Tavern used to be great when they were out on Hwy 21 but now they "tenderize" the meat to about 1/4 inch think and basically it is now primarily fried crust.

Huh?

There are a bunch of places in this area with good chicken fried steak.

All of the places listed are good and you can add The Feed Barn in Bryan and Cow Talk Steakhouse in Navasota to that list.

And here come all of the "gross...that's Sysco/US Foods/ Ben E Keith frozen food" grackles that don't realize how much they eat is frozen/canned product.

I agree and I was surprised. Hate ordering it when everyone else I'm with is having a mexican plate but I'll do it because it's pretty good. Seems weird.

Otherwise I'll go with Cotton Patch like many others say. And any place from the mid 1980s to before, if it were to magically reappear.

Went to Jose's for lunch today after seeing all of these comments and tried their CFS. I have to agree, it's very tasty and it's now my favorite place for CFS. Who would have ever thought it?

Had Cheddar's CFS today for first time.

Extremely meh. Don't even think it would make my top ten.

In 1992 there were so many more places with CFS. Every Monday was CFS day in the Ag CaFe on campus and it seemed like half the Corps was there every week.
