Our local FIRST Lego League Tournament is looking for more volunteers. If you've ever been interesting in robotics for kids or love helping grow our future leaders in STEM, this is a great program to be a part of. For those of us in the liberal arts, the project presentations are fantastic and you can help kids learn to communicate their amazing ideas clearly. For the engineers or other tech people, the robot judges can have a real impact on how these kids think of their STEM experience. They need volunteers of all levels so this is also a great way for kids to get community service hours. Tournament is on January 26 from 7 a.m. to about 4 p.m. at Sam Rayburn Middle School.

I'm sure judges are also still needed and those have to be adults. This is a really great program and a lot of fun to work with. Please consider coming out to volunteer if you have time this weekend.

FYI...

Bare minimum numbers may have just been met for judges and referees, but more are needed.

Local schools have been notified, but the response has been virtually nonexistent (unfortunately).

They still need a lot of people for helping with crowd control, getting teams where they need to be, and general help.

Volunteers get free breakfast from Shipley's, free lunch from Little Caesars, and a t-shirt.

Checking to see if I'm free this weekend. If so, I'll definitely help!

Update:

They got a surge of volunteers yesterday and things look really good for judge and referee positions! They are now hoping to get a few more general help / floater volunteers to round everything out and help make things run smoothly.
