A friend's stepdaughter is on the way to A&M for a professional school interview. Grew up in central Texas and undergrad in the Northeast.

Other than military walk, Kyle Field, and Northgate. What do you suggest she see? Need to show her things that will make her want to spend the next couple of years in College Station.

What restaurants, coffee shops etc. do you recommend?

Don't show her Northgate, show her the grown-up bars.

(aka, every bar other than Northgate and The Tap)

Take her to Century Square. Eat at Porters or Poppys. Walk around to some of the shops. Have a drink at the bar at the George or at Porters' bar (if you don't eat there).

Problem solved.

Go out to the Lakewalk area and grab coffee at POV. It is a great spot and that whole little area with the lake, the Stella, the few shops, etc. will leave a nice impression. If it is nice weather walk around the lake and go up in the observation deck.

Century Square for lunch - Sweet Paris is a great spot.

Depending on her particular interest, the MSC including flag room and Medal of Honor exhibit might be of interest. You are in that area already if doing MW and KF.

The visitor video in Rudder tower is probably more undergrad-centric and the corps center is pretty narrowly focused, but has value in understanding the traditions.

I think the great thing about B/CS these days is that there are multiple "scenes" depending on what you're into. There's no 'best way' to show off the area because there are enough options that it really depends on what the person is into.

Restaurants (for dinner):

Upscale: Republic, Porter's, Christopher's, Ronin
Let's say upscale casual?: Eccell, Caffe Capri, Amico Nave,
Casual but awesome: RX Pizza, Mad Taco, All The King's Men, Fuego, Taz, Koppe Bridge

(There are a lot of other places that are great also, there's some good asian food places for example, but I wouldn't think anyone is moving to College Station for the asian food.)

Coffee: Harvest (downtown Bryan), 1541, Sweet Eugene's, Gogh Gogh, POV (at the Stella Hotel)

Take her downtown - there's a great coffee shop, bars for people past undergrad age, lots of locally owned restaurants, a farmers market on Saturday mornings, a couple of live music venues, lots of little shops, even a full fledged chocolatier.
