Because the youth of B/CS aren't able to get porn or tobacco anywhere else? Trouble in River City!

There are 2 smoke shops across the street, Fatty's and Smokin' Joes, and Cindies, which sells pornography is also down the street.

Meh. I don't care if it's on a major thoroughfare. Middle of a neighborhood I would care, but not there.

But the children! The children!

Make sure to shut down any nearby liquor stores or gas stations/grocery stores carrying beer/wine too. Oooh - - there might be some Cosmo magazines in the above-mentioned stores. Get those outside and burn them asap!

And, while we conservatives are busy being up in arms about some implements that might be used for smoking the wacky tobacky and others that might be used for *gasp* some sort of sexual gratification, we might as well join our liberal brothers and sisters in shutting down gun stores while we are busy protecting our youth from all things that could possibly harm them if misused.

Smoken Joe's is Aggie Owned and Operated and has been here since 1992, they support many things in the community as well as sponsor youth athletic teams. They also own other businesses here in BCS and operate under the laws of the state and local communities. Planet K is a large chain that will take it's money outside of our community, and back to Austin. I think it's real funny they are using TAMU logos when in actuality they are from ATX

My thoughts exactly.

What are the reasons for the uproar?

Drug paraphernalia? There are dozens of other places in town that sell that stuff.

Pornography? Cindi's is a block away and has that covered as well. And seriously, who buys porn from a store anymore anyway?

Grow up, people.

News 3's Rusty Surette went inside the business and found rooms with pornography and adult items we can't show on TV. There were shelves of drug paraphernalia, books on how to grow marijuana and just about all the supplies necessary to do it.

The city of Bryan says the business is still in the process of submitting paperwork, but KBTX has confirmed the property isn't zoned for some types of merchandise sold at Planet K stores. Nearby are schools, a day care center, Church and residential homes.

Sounds like zoning may trip up this filthy little enterprise.

I think that, to be very honest with you, I do believe that we should have rightly believed, but we certainly believe that certain issues are just settled.

I vote Yay. Planet K stores have some pretty interesting things in them(non smoking related) that current similar places don't have in this town. Good for competition. Bring em on

Eh. They're next door to a preschool. It's more like NITBYD. "Not in the backyard of a daycare."

I don't care either way. I have no interest in buying any of that stuff, so I won't be gracing them with my presence.

What a silly question. Zoning is designed to place sexually oriented and other adult businesses away from areas frequented by children.

If you don't like it, you're welcome to address the city council and try to convince them otherwise.

I say nah but I don't buy drug paraphernalia, porn or synthetic drugs. At least they gave it an obscure paint job in a low traffic area. It's what I'd expect for the Dirty B.

And it looks like selling in the parking lot today without a permit was a no-no. Boy, they are some rule breakers aren't they? Flouting city guidelines, using trademarked images from A&M, selling adult materials next to a daycare and near a school... these people just like to thumb their noses at the community huh? Great way to start a business.

Whatever your feeling is on the type of products they sell and where the business is located, and idiot that acts like this at a "press conference" doesn't need to be in business in B/CS.

I'm conservative and overly religious, and I think you let the free market work. As long as they obey the laws regulating the products they sell. I think the city should get out of the way. NIMBY's can be far more oppressive than the federal government.
