Avoid Wellborn Road

One lane each way between Rock Prairie and 2818 (and maybe further). Of all the roads that need to be worked on, why do they feel they need to resurface Wellborn Rd? Glad our tax dollars are being spent so wisely.

And why are they doing it now? They could inconvenience a lot more people if they wait till the students are back.

Complete power down on Wellborn. Road was in much shape than other roads.

Wish they would have spent that money towards an overpass on 2818 at Holleman and George Bush. But that would make too much sense.

Those aren't in the ballpark of the same cost.

Clearly. I'm just saying, why spend money on something that's perfectly fine?

You're thinking too logically. We are talking about government spending. You have to throw logic out the window.

The correct answer is that they needed to spend their money allocated before the end of the fiscal year so they can get it back next year. Government funding says if you don't spend it, you don't get it next year, and no governement official is going to willingly give up money.

Maybe they should let it fall apart before they spend anything on it? Sounds like yall would be happy with potholes all over the road before a dime of money is spent. Makes sense.

I think herein lies the answer, preventative maintenance at a convenient time (both while students are gone and before the HEB opens). Instead of waiting for the concrete to fall apart they're putting down asphalt which will be cheaper/easier to repair in the future.

Have you ever noticed that when a pothole gets large enough to cause a bumpy ride and the fix is to dump some asphalt in it, the asphalt subsides and the pothole reforms? I'm no engineer, but given the amount of construction vehicles and general traffic on that road perhaps they are being proactive. When the new grocery store opens the traffic will only increase so play some music and enjoy your smooth ride....

It could also be a coefficient of friction issue. If the pavement is too slippery then they need to resurface it in order to keep you precious drivers from sliding off the road. But I only took a few engineering classes. Could be they just wanted to piss you off.

Isn't that section of Wellborn concrete vs asphalt? Doesn't apply.

You are right. I don't drive there much. Still, could be the same factor. Maybe it isn't shedding water correctly. The first post said resurfacing.

Maybe somebody could explain what they are doing around new HEB. They've just started another fancy median project right in front of it. And they installed stop lights along Wellborn.

Are they going to get stoplights and then tear up the brand new median?

They have to tear up the median so you can turn left at the new stop light

Well they forgot to put a gap in the median that is currently under construction. It's solid, near the stoplight.

Maybe they built it that way so that they could construct the entire center w/o having to deal with the mayhem and accidents caused by uturns/left turns from a median with a gap (because people will do that) and they will deconstruct it when they are finished?

The median was there long before the stoplight. With the new stoplight for HEB, they're having to shorten the median to make room for ingress/egress. They've already removed the trees and dirt, now they're packing and prepping what was the interior of the median before removing the curbs.

The same board that said that Rock Prairie and Longmire was a waste of time, money, and was behind schedule.

"currently under construction" should be your first clue.
