Just got the alert that Barbara Bush has passed away. She was a unique and special woman and will be greatly missed.

For anyone that doesn't know it, George and Barbara will be buried on the grounds of the Library. The site is across the foot bridge behind the pond. Their daughter Robin is already buried in the fenced plot space.

(Edited expectations as it appears the burial plans are different than previously discussed. See below)

From what I have heard it will be a private burial.

Talked to a close confidant earlier this evening. Barbara told A&M two weeks ago that she was expecting to pass away soon. I was told the burial was going to occur on Saturday afternoon before Muster. It's going to be a very small private affair, I was told it would only be like fifteen people attending and a single cameraman that were going to witness it.

Security would probably still be high, including a police escort that would block off roads temporarily. GB Library probably closed entirely.

Funeral services are in Houston on Saturday, with the family coming here via motorcade afterwards for a private ceremony. I'm not sure if the route through town has been posted.

Free admission to the Bush Library through next week in honor of Barbara Bush. If you haven't been through there yet, now would be a great time.

Hopefully there won't be a train at that time.

Will folks be allowed to line the streets? If so, it needs to happen.

It would be nice if either TxDOT or CS would bother to fix some of those giant potholes on Texas before the procession comes through. Some of the right lane is getting pretty bad.

Received this email today. Looks like there will be an opportunity to view the motorcade.

OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT
MICHAEL K. YOUNG
PRESIDENT
April 18, 2018
Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,
Aggies have heavy hearts at the passing of Barbara Bush.
By any standard, Mrs. Bush was a role model, dedicated to the betterment of our nation through public service, along with her husband, George H.W. Bush, 41st President of the United States.

The common values shared by the Bush Family and Texas A&M are undeniable: love of country, commitment to family, and dedication to serve the public good.

When the Bushes chose our campus to house the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum and the Bush School of Government and Public Service, it forever solidified loving and supportive relations between the Bushes and the university.

President and Mrs. Bush both made frequent visits to Texas A&M for events, including commencements, sporting events and visits with students, especially those at the Bush School of Government and Public Service where graduate students follow in the footsteps of the Bushes, devoting their lives to public service.
The beautiful Bush complex is a stunning backdrop for campus activities and, for the past 21 years, it has been the scene of events and celebrations for the Texas A&M family, the community and beyond. The serene pond behind the Bush Library is a wonderful place for reflection and quiet time
.
Mrs. Bush was a leading force behind numerous causes during her life. She was dedicated especially to bettering the lives of parents and their children, including the establishment of the Barbara Bush Parent Center on George Bush Drive.

The interment of Mrs. Bush will be on the Library and Museum grounds here at Texas A&M on Saturday. She will be buried beside her daughter, Robin, who passed away at the age of three after battling leukemia.
Details are forthcoming from university communications on motorcade viewing opportunities for the campus community and general public.

Our most sincere condolences to the Bush family as they have suffered an immeasurable loss. They are endeared to Aggies, and we to them.

In lieu of flowers, the Bush family would like donations made to the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy, where well-wishers can also leave personal tributes.

We were so touched that Bush School students organized a candlelight vigil last night at the pond behind Bush Library.

Marti and I are honored to have known such a remarkable public servant, who will no doubt continue to inspire others for many years to come.

Sincerely,
Michael K. Young

Someone else may know for sure but I think her favorite color was purple. Purple ribbons along the route might be a nice gesture.

After a quick glance at the route, I wasn't seeing what time the intersections were closing. It suggested that folks who wish to view be in place by 2:00, but I do have a commitment earlier in the day. If anyone happens to know about what time they will be placing barricades or closing off, would they be so kind as to post it here? I will plan my departure time or route accordingly.

I found out from a friend that works at AFS that her name will be called at Muster 2019 when the family can participate.

I would imagine it would depend on how long it takes the procession to get here from Houston, and that the intersections would be closed as the processcion reaches then open as it passes, much like a regular funeral procession.

It seems like all the intersections will be closed once they get off Hwy 6, not just as they come to them.

Thank you. I think I will be able to plan based on that info.

It is anticipated that citizens wishing to pay tribute to Mrs. Bush will be along the route as well, and these factors have the potential to impact travel in and around the motorcade route before the motorcade proceeds through College Station. If citizens are interested in parking in parking lots and standing on sidewalks as the motorcade proceeds along the route, it is requested that they be in place by 2 p.m. The George Bush Library complex will not be open to the public.

All major intersections along the route will be closed as the motorcade proceeds through College Station. The intersections that will be closed will begin at Highway 6 at Rock Prairie Road to Texas Avenue at George Bush Drive. Once the motorcade begins traveling on George Bush Drive, all major intersections will be blocked until the motorcade reaches Barbara Bush Drive.
Highway 6 Southbound at the Rock Prairie Road exit and split will be shut down as well.
After the motorcade proceeds through College Station, the route will re-open for normal traffic.
Parts of the roadway could be affected for up to two hours.

The intersections are all closed on Texas Avenue for obvious reasons, but I'm more curious about the onramps between Houston and College Station on 290 and 6. Assuming the procession starts at St. Martin's in Houston and enters 610, there are about 35 on-ramps on 290, and another dozen on Highway 6 south of Rock Prairie. Are all those going to be closed?

KBTX reported tonight that there is a new Barbara Bush exhibit at the GB Library. That may explain the free admission for next week. I've been there several times, but plan to see this exhibit, as well.

I imagine that the LEF's along the route will close those temporarily as the motorcade passes through those rural areas.

WTAW this morning says CSPD suggests be in place on George Bush Dr. by 2:00 pm. Motorcade ETA is somewhere from 2:20 on. The library will be closed, but people are encouraged to line George Bush and wish her well as the motorcade passes.

50 emergency vehicles involved and all intersections blocked while the motorcade passes.

Godspeed, Mrs. Bush.

Everything I have seen says her favorite color is Blue. As oogway mentioned,,,it would be great to have her favorite color along the route

I may be getting the color preference confused with the other Mrs. Bush! I may try and bring some of each just in case.

Members of the Corps will be lining Barbara Bush Drive and the Singing Cadets will perform at the graveside portion of the service.

I really hope that all that are able, will line up along Texas or George Bush. It is an incredible honor for this community to serve as her final resting place.

The major 290 on-ramps (including Beltway 8) aren't rural areas. According to KBTX, Waller Co. was told to keep 290/6 cleared of vehicles.
