Is this an all-day thing.? Or one case and then another jury is called?

You're typically called to potentially serve on a single jury for a single case. If it's dismissed/settled before your summons date, you're off the hook.

I've been on a jury for a jaywalking case. Biggest waste of time. Be prepared.

Is it weird that I'm disappointed in having been summoned many times in the last 17 years but have never been selected to serve?

I consider it "up there" as one of the highest of civic duties.

Consider it a blessing.

They are typically contested traffic tickets praying the officer doesn't show for a dismissal.
The officer will show up, then you listen to a completely ignorant person on the judicial process blather along wasting 2-3 hours of your day.

Allow juries to increase penalties and there will no longer be this nonsense wasting countless hours of people's time and money over stupid traffic court stuff.

Now, actual county and district court can be pretty interesting at times.

Getting called for Federal in Houston can suck. Have to be downtown at 8:00.

I got a summons for District Court in Bryan in April. I've been looking for court cases in the news with my court date, but haven't found anything. The docket online only shows what's going on today, and not on any future dates.

Does anyone know how to easily find out which cases are scheduled in District Court on a given day in the future?

Don't spend your $7 windfall all at one time...

Not real sure how much you get paid but I know it is not much.

I think that university students over the age of 18 should also have to serve.

Twenty years in this town......never been selected.

It's on my bucket list to actually serve on a jury.......any jury....before I die.

Jeez.
I get summoned 1-2 times per year.

I believe they look at Drivers License addresses and Voter Registration addresses.

Been called a bunch but never put to use. Always wanted to but the process gets a little old.

I have been called for jury duty six times. I have been selected four times. Two civil and four criminal. I was dismissed for the civil but have been hit for all four criminal.

1, Before police cars had cameras a guy was charged with threatening a police office that was driving him to jail. We all felt he was guilty but be also felt it was the police officers word against the arrested guy. Not Guilty

2, Aggravated armed robbery. A guy caught shoplifting pulled a knife on the store manager. Guilty. 50 years. (multiple felony convictions.).

3.Distribution child porn. 23 year old sicko. Told the judge that the whole thing is sick and I did not want to serve. They dismissed the whole group of potential jurors and the judge called me up to speak to him and the two attorneys. Judge asked me if I could be fair as this was only a charge. I said yes but was pretty sure the defense attorney would strike me. I was sent to the hallway and five minutes later that called out the jurors and I was the first one called. Horrible situation and they passed the evidence to all the jurors to view. Guilty 80 years..His parents and sister were crying and two of his former high school teachers who gave testimony on what nice kid he was were crying too. It was not his first rodeo. His niece's parents (his sister and brother in law) testified of previous sicko things with his young niece,

Moved from Brazos County to Collin County. Two months later called for jury duty, I told them I had just served in Brazos County two months prior. They said too bad.

4. A former Navy Seal was accused of beating his ex wife (wife at the time of the alleged beating) It was a six person jury. two men and four women. Women were the first to say not guilty and me and the other guy went along.

The bad jury call is a Federal Jury, In Brazos County you have to go to Houston. My wife was called to serve on a federal civil trial. She was selected. The judge said the federal government would pay hotel expenses but she decided I would drive her there. First day of the trial they settled out of court, I was on my way back to College Station. She called me about the time I was passing the speedway and asked me to come pick her up.

I knew a guy who was selected to a Federal Grand jury in Houston. They paid his hotel expenses but he was a self employed home painter. If he did not work, he did not get paid. He plead with the judge but they would not excuse him. He had to serve for six weeks. It was a good thing his wife had a job or he would have been in even deeper economic trouble.

Interesting, I've had nearly the opposite experience.

I've been called for criminal cases at least a dozen times. 2-3 never went to trial, and I was always cut from the others because my next door neighbor was a prosecutor.

The one District case I was called for was Civil. I knew the Plaintiff's family, I knew 2-3 of the key witnesses. I knew I'd be back at the office by 10:00. Nope, was picked and then made foreman. It dragged along for a week.
Interesting, but a perfect example of why we need loser pays to dial back the money grab law suits.

The other was JP Court for tickets. Irritating.
Was called for Federal, but it never went to trial.

Are you saying that university students should no longer be able to claim an exemption? They do get called to serve in their home counties. Not all university students from Brazos County attend school in Texas though.
