Another major accident there this morning. I've lived on both sides of Wellborn(Cain side and Navarro side) the past 3 years and have witnessed multiple wrecks happen here.

What is stopping the city from installing traffic signals?

Master plan is to remove the Cain railroad crossing and replace it with a crossing (and light, presumably) at Deacon Drive. Cain Road is a bit problematic in the fact that the road on the other side of the railroad doesn't quite line up with the rest of the road so if you keep going straight you might fall off into a sharp incline into a ditch.

When complete, Deacon Drive will link Texas Avenue with Holleman South, which will be helpful.

Access to Cain Rd. will be provided by General Parkway extension once the RR crossing is abandoned.

Wrecks do not necessitate stoplights. They necessitate better drivers.

That's true. But have you ever tried turning left from either side of wellborn at this intersection during peak traffic times? It's a PITA regardless of how good of a driver you are.

They should should prohibit left turns at that intersection (in all directions). Either drive to Holleman or Rock Prairie.

Way too dangerous.

Nobody is forcing anyone to turn left. You can turn right and make a U-turn.

That's true of any intersection. Let's get rid of all stop lights!

Then don't turn left. Turn right and then make a u-turn up the road a bit. My wife was in a serious wreck there 6 years ago because some dumbass wanted to turn left and tried to rush it.

I watched people at Cain yesterday (in the rain) pull out in front of cars on Wellborn because they were tired of waiting on traffic to clear. There are other ways out of that area - they may not be as convenient, but probably much more safe at 6pm.

Before they dividers on Texas, I used to get pissed dodging people pulling out of Target cutting all the way across Texas just to turn right on Holleman instead of going to the north end of the parking lot and turning right on Holleman and waiting on the light to cross Texas.

Incidentally, the Holleman and Luther Street West stoplights across Harvey Mitchell have been recently been altered (within the last week) so that there is no blinking yellow arrow anymore for unprotected lefts.

Close Cain to left turns, leave Deacon alone, do the Holleman/2818 overpass now.

Deacon's going to be real nice but the railroad crossing isn't equipped for it. When Wellborn was rebuilt, the road was rebuilt so that the Cain crossing wasn't nearly as dramatic (notice how the lanes of Wellborn closer to Cain come up near the railroad level). I don't really like the idea of a rougher railroad crossing or another light on Deacon (or another stop on Holleman Drive West) but access from the highway to Holleman Drive South without going on 2818 or Rock Prairie will be nice).
