Found dog in Raintree

This guy was curled up on my porch when I opened the door this morning. Looks like some type of pit bull mix. Doesn't show any sign of abuse. He's dirty but his nails have been clipped and he looks well fed. No collar. Laying on my back porch crying right now. We live in the back of the subdivision and it wouldn't be the first time someone abandoned a pet back here that they no longer wanted. He seems like a good fella. Have posted on Brazos Lost and Found Pets and Neighborhood Raintree. Someone has posted there that they had seen a dog of similar description a couple of times in Carter Crossing which is just a couple streets over. Hopefully someone will step up.

Have you taken her to be scanned gor a chip? Wellborn Vet is open on Saturday's and will scan for you! I did this yesterday with a pup I found and got her home within a few hours!

Thanks for the tip but my wife's and her SUV won't be back until later today. Don't know how he will act in a car so I'm not putting him in my Genesis. We have a large dog kennel for the SUV. I won't call animal control so he's safe for awhile. I'll get him scanned soon though.

If CS Animal Control is on duty they will come by and scan. You do not have to surrender him. If the scan has info they will even take the dog to their family.

Also, the clinic in Petsmart will scan when other clinics are closed.

I thought the same for just a second when I saw that picture earlier today. Went back six weeks on the Lost & Found page but no luck.
Some things we found out about him:
He's definitely an older dog. His teeth are worn down and it appears he has cataracts.
He has had some type of injury to his right leg or his hips are giving him problems
He's an indoor dog but must have not been allowed to the back part of the house he lived in as he will only follow us to the entrance to the hallway that leads to the back and sit and wait until one of us returns
He's picked out a place in front of the fireplace and seems content there
Like all dogs he loves attention and likes the belly rub

We are pretty certain that he was abandoned in or near the woods that borders our street but will go through the necessary steps to find his home. He's lucky he came to our house as we love dogs and our Springer seems to tolerate him.

Dog dumpers are the absolute worst.

I live in the country and it happens here too often.

Just realized he's mostly deaf but will lift an ear to a real shrill whistle. Not going to give him a name yet as he wouldn't respond to it anyway. He's slept most of the day away yesterday and is still sleeping this morning. Probably wore out from a few days on his own. My wife and I decided that if nobody steps up to claim him we will give him a home.
If the person who abandoned this elderly fella is reading this: Why didn't you take this guy to a shelter if you wouldn't or couldn't care for him anymore? Just kicking him out of a car and abandoning a pet due to health issues isn't what responsible adults do. Coyotes roam the woods where he was abandoned. I'm a big believer in Karma.
