My son (high school junior) is looking for some volunteer opportunities/internship with a graphic design company. He is pretty skilled for his age (in my biased opinion!) and has also taken some high school classes on it. Does anyone have any suggestions on where or with whom this might be possible? He's dependable, personable, and very interested in the field. Thanks in advance.

Check with local churches. Many conduct a good deal of PR/Marketing/Advertising, and keep someone on staff to handle those responsibilities. I'm sure that one of the local churches wouldn't mind bringing a good kid on as an intern to help current staff, or even as a part-time employee. The same could be said for any other local charities or non-profits that rely heavily on marketing, but might not have the budget to keep a large or seasoned staff.
