Gander employees had told us the Gander was closing, but was going to be re-branded to the new Camping World brand that's being created and re-opened...

That's what happens when you refuse to be competitive with your prices.
Just as Academy was way more competitive and is now needing a larger store.
I'm guessing here but it seems to me that Academy's new larger store is why this Gander Mtn didn't make the cut.

Comparing Gander to Academy is apples and oranges. Some similar inventory but Gander is more of an outfitter while Academy is a sporting goods store.
This Gander Mtn didnt make the cut because it's prices sucked and, even with its gazillion firearms, it couldn't outperform a much smaller -- locally owned -- store that has far more competitive prices on guns.

As long as people aren't going to squat on the building (cough*Albertsons on University*cough) then someone will take those buildings soon that aren't churches. Imagine if the Gander Mountain became a supermarket, it's about the right size for one (66k sq. ft., a bit smaller than the H-E-B stores but comparable to Kroger). (source)

There would only be one way in/out via the feeder. You can get to Kroger from Rock Prairie, Longmire and the feeder. It'd be nice if they connected it to Raintree
Unless you live on the street that they use for the connection. Plus the cost would almost be prohibitive. Carter Creek comes right up to the south border of Raintree. Part of the area on the south and east side of Raintree has been designated by the city as protected wetlands. If true, it wouldn't be the first time. They did the same thing on 290/71 in Austin.
The word in the hunting/fishing/guiding world a few years ago was that the upper levels of Gander Mtn., didn't care to be competitive or actually put much effort into it at all. Not sure why that would be the case, but I was told that they didn't even try.Demon 8 said:

I hit a lot of golf balls at that range. I remember that they had one night a week that was buy one bucket / get one bucket free for students. That was cheap fun watching people that didn't play golf taking hacks.
It is kind of strange that all 3 are closing at around the same time, Dickey's, Academy and Gander Mountain.
A Main Event type of place or a indoor go-kart track would be a great replacement for Gander.
