My 11 year old Weimeraner has severe arthritis in his hips. He's been on medication for a few months and it seemed to be working but within the last week he's taken a turn for the worse and last night he couldn't get up on his own. My wife and I carried him out to the yard this morning but he didn't do anything. Just laid there. He's back inside now laying on his bed. I know it's time.
We use a mobile vet, Chasing Tails, which I highly recommend, and were going to try and schedule an euthanization at home sometime today. My question is what do we do with him after it's done. I see some local business's (BCS Area) that provide this type of service. Has anyone gone through this and can recommend anyone in particular or give me some options? Thank you.

Check with Aggieland Humane Society about disposal options, perhaps? Cremation is also an option - I think http://www.liveoakpetservices.com/ may be able to help there. The Vet School may also have some options.

I am so very sorry you are having to go through this. We had to put down our family pet about 7 years ago and it was very difficult. Our vet office had Live Oak come out and pick up our precious dog. It was nice knowing there was a facility willing to do this.

Call them ahead and see what the procedure would be for pick up. The other option is landfill. I thought more of my pets than that, so I had them all cremated. Lots of choices with Live Oak and they are prompt, compassionate and caring.

Your vet may be able to help with this. When I went thru this a few years ago, my vet, Dr. Bostick, came to the house for this. He took the body, and had it cremated for us. We picked up the ashes a few days later.

There is a place heading back to Navasota. We had both are dogs cremated. I could never imagine burying them or disposing of them another way!

So sorry for your loss.

We had to put down our 12 year old Weim three weeks ago; we let the vet handle the cremation. He declined rapidly, spent a day in doggie ICU, got worse, then it was time. At least we were there at the end. Sorry that you are having to go through this, too. I would tell you that time heals, but it doesn't.

Blaze Harper: Thanks for the advice. Believe me I thought about that. Unfortunately where I live there are underground phone lines and gas lines running through my back yard and I don't want to take that chance. Vet recommends more meds. We did that about 10 A.M.. I'll do anything to keep him going, without him suffering.

Been almost a year for my black lab. I still tear up today thinking of her.

You might want to consider adding acupuncture to your dog's treatment. We have an older Husky/Chow mix with arthritis, hip dysplasia and spondylosis. We thought we would have to put her to sleep when she could barely walk and was in a good deal of pain, but with acupuncture and meds when she has a pain flare, she's doing amazingly well. Good luck to you and your pup. Been there and it's tough.

We just went through this with our 16 year old pup a couple months ago. We used the Calloway Jones Pet Legacies and they were awesome. They picked our dog up from the vet and then brought the cremains back to the vet to pick up, but they would have brought him to us too, we just weren't home at the time.

I had to do this last year with one of my very loved fur babies. Hardest thing ever. I used Pet Legacies through Callaway Jones. They were awesome. So compasionate and caring. They understand how hard this is. Sending prayers.

We used Pet Legacies. They were great! They even came out in what looked like a "dog hearse". That kind of made us smile, even during that horrible time.

I'm sorry about Dylan.

Last May, we woke up to my dachshund barely hanging on and we rushed her to A and M. I have to say they were amazing and kind and not overpriced. They send her body to Live Oak and again they were wonderful. I even drove out to pick up her little urn and met the people who worked there and they were so kind and caring.

This. Bury him in the yard. Seems like he was a great dog. I know these times are tough.

Pet Legacies is in town and locally owned. They also return the cremation back to you within only a couple days.
