Anyone's suddenlink dvr randomly not record things even though they're scheduled.

Piece of crap didn't record Chuck or House tonight.

If satellite had ABC-HD I'd switch tomorrow.

Most of us got zapped about two weeks ago. You may have gotten a letter or auto-call about it and ignored one/both. Or maybe not.

Thank goodness for that DVR post a couple of weeks ago, it alerted me that my series recordings were deleted and that I needed to reprogram it. I never received a letter or phone call from Suddenlink about the issue.

Sounds like your DVR may be going out. They do that occasionally. We've on our 3rd one in the past 3 years.

It does. Just give them a "service address" in Houston and get the Houston locals. It's easy, and keeps you from having to watch the cheesy local commercials as well.

Problem solved. :-)

I saw the post about the series dropping off a few weeks ago I checked mine and they're still there.

My 5 year old Tivo works much better.

Hi - There was an issue with the Pace brand DVR's a couple of weeks ago that may have affected your series recordings. If you are experiencing issues of scheduled recordings not recording, please delete your series recordings and re-set them up. This should resolve your issue. If you have any further questions, please feel free to email me at tina-AT-suddenlink-DOT-com. So sorry for the inconvenience.

I started noticing shows not taping today - looked at my series recordings and several series mysteriously disappeared! And I do NOT have a Pace DVR. Mr. Turner and I have been contemplating switching to satellite for months - we are sick of missing shows, shows taping in fast-forward and shows becoming pixelated and then completely freezing up. This may be the final push we need!

Our DVR series recordings were zapped and we have a motorola model - obviously the problem did not affect only pace models.

Our DVR has been ditzy since the beginning. My biggest question is why doesn't the "HD" DVR have an HDMI port.

"If you are experiencing issues of scheduled recordings not recording, please delete your series recordings and re-set them up."

That's great and all, but now I have to remember to re-set up all those series which aren't even on right now and start the new season in a couple of months or longer (and no, there aren't reruns of all of them on atm) ...what a pita

Yes this does happen to me every now and then I also get the "DVR services inoperable call...." message every now and then as well. I just unplug for 15 minutes plug it back in and everything returns to normal.

I can't remember who gave me the advice on here, but check your box. If it's a Pace box, take it into Suddenlink and swap it out for a Motorola. I did that about two weeks ago and I haven't had any issues like I used to (pixelation, white screens, etc)

Is ABC really available on satellite now? That's my biggest hold up.

Also, I have a motorola box. Still sucks.

We have a Motorola box and still have all these problems, and by the way, have NEVER received a phone call/letter/anything stating that we might be experiencing problems. The problem is obviously with the provider, not the box.

One of the main issues I have with my DVR is that I can't delete some shows after I watch them because the DRV will then record it the next time it is on so I have to keep a bunch of shows that I've already watched.

Also, my DVR has a habit of not stopping the recording when it is supposed to, so I will wake up with something still recording....8 hours later.

This summer we were one of the ones that lost everything that had been recorded when they updated the guide. We were on vacation so we didn't even have a chance to try to save some of the stuff we wanted to keep. We also lost all of the series settings a couple weeks ago.

Whoever started the rumor that this 'update glitch' only affects Pace DVRs - well it's bull****.

Last night we got home (we have a Motorola) only to find all our recording presets were gone and nothing was recording.

And yes, their guide is the worst out of all the companies - by a long shot.

fffffuuuuuuuuu suddenlink

Just an FYI, I'm selling my TiVo for anyone interested. It will replace your Suddenlink DVR.

I haven't tried it with suddenlink, but I don't see why their cablecard solution should have any problem.

Odd. We got a robocall about it last week.

But while we're on the subject, sorta...did anyone have problems with NBC on Suddenlink last Tuesday after 9:00? We were watching the show after Biggest Loser and suddenly the picture started stopping, blurring, and showing a test pattern. It got so annoying that we had to switch channels by 9:20. We did check the HD channel to see if that would help, but that picture was even worse!

The Motorola dvr provided by suddenlink is the worst dvr I've used since starting use of Dvr's (using Tivo) over 10 years ago. By a large margin. I don't understand how companies can put out products like this. Anyone that has used a recent model Tivo, Directv Dvr, or Dish DVR would be, like me, wondering who could make a decision to provide such a piece of poo-poo.

Agreed Jeff. I couldn't believe it when I first got my DVR in College Station. It was a piece of junk.

I agree about the guide and recording the same show multiple times if you delete it. I called Suddenlink and they tried to blame the networks: "The networks don't send the correct code showing the show is a repeat."

So on the guide, you can see the new shows, yet the DVR will record the show anyway even if it doesn't say New. How hard is it for suddenlink to program them so that we only want the new shows, to go "if not new, DON'T record".

I want to switch to satellite, but can't because we don't have a clear line to the south. At least that's what DirectTV told us.
Redstone

Yes, the re-recording of repeat episodes of "new" shows - in other words, the inability to record the new show at just one instance - SUCKS. I don't want all of the Big Love and Soup repeats.

yes, kyledr04, abc really is in hd now with college station "locals" on dish network. it just switched this week. i rarely watch abc and wouldn't even have noticed except i was trying to record something the night it changed.

no abc-hd wasn't a deal breaker for me, but sucked during football season. much nicer now.

I agree with the above sentiment. I had Dish, my first experience with a DVR, and when I moved we did not have a clear line of sight for the satellite so we had to cancel and pick up Suddenlink. For roughly the same price, I get less HD channels and a terrible DVR. Not only is the space less than HALF of what my Dish DVR had but the interface is horrendous. I couldn't believe how archaic the guide menu looked and how much lag there is when you enter commands. Recording HD shows fills it up ridiculously fast as well.

Full rant list on suddenlink DVR:

Remote:

Colors used for labeling buttons render many unreadable.
Too easy to press the wrong button with catastrophic result. e.g. fast forward and live are right by each other.

Overall:

My iPhone has a much faster processor than this DVR. E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. is slow.
DVR must be powered off to turn on or turn off closed captions.
DVR can’t be powered off during a recording like most DVRs (but scheduled recordings seem to record when powered off).

Channel Guides:

Close to 20% of guide space vertically is used up by banner advertisements.
Can’t create a custom list of channels, so all of the pornography channels, premium channels, ppv, etc. that I NEVER watch are in the guide. (actually, you can create a custom guide, you just can’t apply it and have it be indefinitely on).

Playback:

Fast forward or rewind doesn’t anticipate where you are trying to stop, so if fast forwarding at 3x or 4x, you will always over/under shoot where you want to resume.
Pausing a live program for 5 or 10 minutes will usually cause the DVR to enable ratings lock, even if the paused program is acceptable to the ratings level set.
Turning the volume up and down sometimes causes live TV to blank the screen and won’t resume unless the channel is changed.

These are the most annoying gripes for me and the way I use this thing. I could go on ...

Thanks for letting me share =)
