I miss Time Out in Post Oak Mall. That was great place to hang out when you were shopping with your parents.

The Cafe Eccell building used to be the College Station City Hall. Anybody remember that?

My family went to church at A&M Presbyterian (where the private dorm is now) during the '60s and '70s, so we drove by it quite often. I remember it being empty except for stacks and stacks of old newspapers for recycling.

That picture of Oakridge Smokehouse Restaurant is the location in Schulenburg and they are still open. They are located on Hwy 77. I grew up in Schulenburg and my parents still live there.

Seems like before the Roxy it was maybe Lipstick (or something like that) I can't remember, but Lipstick might have been where the Tap is now.

I used to love to eat at Pepper's Burgers! That was good! It was on Texas where Harvey Road intersects.

I remember as a kid when they were building Culpepper Plaza and all of the dirt blowing in that lot while they were building it.

I don't remember that place. Can you specify about where at that intersection? I only burger places I remember in that area from yesteryear is the Dairy Palace and JJ Mugs (where Fuddruckers currently is).

Kashim nightclub was also at the Harvey Rd./Texas Ave. intersection in the late 70's-early 80s.

Tom's BBQ was the ****. I was sad to see it start to decline before closing around 2000 or so.

There used to be a Dairy Palace here??? My parents live in Canton and the Dairy Palace there rocks! Only one like it that I've known about.

Danvers had the best burgers in town in the early 80s.

whats the story on this bar that used to be at Doux Chene? I lived there a while ago and had no idea that it was once a desireable location. Was it part of the apartment or just really close to it?

It was on the top floor above the offices.

apparently gone before 1987 when I got here (although, since I didn't go south of harvey my first two years, it could have been out there).

I don't think Doux Chene was ever a desirable place to live. The original owner was some type of new age freaks. There used to be wooden pyramid frames on top of each apartment building to channel good "vibrations" into the place.

Slyk, Pepper's Burgers used to be a stand alone building close to where the Harvey Washbanger strip is now. (long before the existing building was there) I guess it was around the late 70's or early 80's when I remember my parents taking me there. Great fries, too!!!

Just read through a few pages and couldn't help but smile. I'm pretty sure I would recognize 1984's real name and several others as well.

You've covered alot of highlights and some lowlights. Sambos was the first restaurant we ate in when we moved here. We stayed at the Sands Motel for a week or so until we could get in a house. We rode dirt bikes all over where Post Oak is now and especially where Cat Hollow and Scott & White is.

I haven't seen mention of Gibson's at Redmond Terrace nor all the 100s of crazy flavors of soda they carried. No mention of Mustard's Last Stand. What about the game room next to Godfathers and Swensons??? Pooh's Park hasn't received nearly enough attention (location of my first date). Fish Richard's out on Wellborn was damn tasty as was the Texan on College. Kountry Kitchen across from the airport had some fine CFS and catfish.

Manor East was indeed the place to be back in the day. It went down hill with Walmart and the opening of Post Oak. I did soooo love the fries at Orange Julius.
But who remembers Kelly's Corner Store at Brothers and Longmire?

That's enough, I'm feeling pretty old now.

Kelly's Corner? Boy that place was wayy out in the boonies back in the day. It was the only store of its kind anywhere near there.
Oh yes the old Redmond Terrace shopping center. Some of the stores from the 70's I remember; Gibsons, Bee Hive Boutique, Ben Franklins, Gift-0-Rama, Redmond Terrace Barber shop, some laundry mat, Pruitt's fabric shop, Brookshire Bros then Piggly Wiggly, Redmond Terrace Drug store and soda shop. There was even a gas staion in the middle of the parking lot. The Post Office end didn't come about until late 70's sometime

I may remember it now, was it in the same building as Dairy Palace and was it owned by Ken Martin? If so then I think I remember it.

For you old timers regarding Pooh's Park, do you remember when the skating rink was where the bowling alley was and bumper cars prior to the bowling alley?
How about before the go-karts/waterslide/mini golf/etc were built, there was kidde carnival section, a fishing pond and a train ride that went back into the woods?

How about Skateland in Bryan on Dodge st?

I remember the skating rink and bumper car, but next door to the bowling alley, to the east(in the same building, separate entrances).

The bowling alley closed years before the skaing rink, iirc.

My memories would be from the early 80's...

Consol, wasn't The Edge in the Lacks shopping plaza on S. Texas? Dallas Night Club was in Deuschene Apts. I remember falling on my a** when it froze. MC Squared was across campus next to where the military surplus store is now. They played great alternative music. I saw Zeitgeist there. ROXZ and R&R were where Harry's is now. The Tap was Beserk, Lipstik, and "Something Beach Club". Zephyrs was in the Woodstone Shoppping Plaza...not far from the Blinn classes (where I attended). Sneakers was where the oil change place is on Harvey. Fajita Ritas was geat.

It was part of it, right in the middle, I believe it was upstairs above the office. I don't know if the owners also owned the apartments or vise versa. Not very many students went there, it was to far south for them. LOLOLOL

It was already closed when we moved to CS But I did get to go to the one in Huntsville- great salad bar. I still have some refill cups too...

I think we still have our glass coco-cola refill pitcher from Godfather's pizza too...

Lived at Doux Chene when I first moved to CS in '83. Semms like there was a fire almost every month somewhere in the complex and a murder thrown in for effect. On the other hand, an efficency with all bills paid went for less than $200 a month.

I remember Sneakers being where Ozona is located - am I wrong? I remember walking home across Harvey to the apartments by that park there (can't remember the name).

Sneakers had a special where all the beer was really cheap until the first person went to the bathroom. It also was the first (and only) place I got to see Stevie Ray Vaughn. I was a fish at A&M.
