My nephew is staying with us for the summer for an internship (Jr EE, class of '26) so we had to clean the guest room up, but realized there was no desk for him. So i had this piece of walnut and tried to make the desk within a week. Unfortunately the planer had an issue with an overload switch, so i didnt hit the 5 day target, but got it done in around 10.

simple piece with a few drawers, and a simple string inlay of maple for an accent.

The desk is just my nephew's for the summer. Once he goes back to school I will probably take this desk to a show I'm doing this fall and try and sell it. I had the slab for 4+ years. It was one of a set of 3 that I bought - the other two also got turned into desks.

What are the dimensions?

Its a bit smaller than a typical desk at around 57x27 (standard is 30x60). I had planned around 1500-1600 at the show (higher markup Austin audience + show fees i need to cover). But texags price would be about 1200. The main driver is the figured claro slab for the top, which ran me about $700.

Yep. I wish I had 1/100 of his skill. Then, I could build something pretty nice! Obviously not super amazing like him.

Send it with him when he returns to school, that is an awesome yet simple piece he can have forever with a little bit of care.
