Here's an awesome photo of a red stag I captured while conducting a thermal drone game count at a client's property in San Diego, TX. Do y'all have any experience with red deer on your property? They definitely seem to fare better on South Texas ranches than other exotics. I know a lot of people who have wasted tons of money on axis deer that die out quickly.

That's an awesome picture, great resolution!!

The only thing I've heard specifically about red deer is that they need access to open water to cool off in the summer, but I'm glad to hear that they're doing well. I'm shocked that axis don't seem to take down in south Texas. Lord knows they're doing well in the Hill Country/southwest Texas

Sure that's a stag? Antlers look more like elk than a crown of a stag.

We have them near Rocksprings in the lower elevations. They've improved greatly over the past few years after moving them more to a protein based diet. Previous ranch owners used to do corn only to them. Nothing to brag about in terms of their horns but their bodies are looking much healthier and that's the main thing we're concerned with.

Hmm that's interesting. This one is definitely a stag though since it was a high fence property where they had released red deer.

We have a small "herd" of them where we hunt. No idea where they came from or how they got there. Only 2-3 Stag and 6-8 hinds. Kind of cool because they draw in the occasional elk from who knows where.

Those sum beeches will eat 100lbs of protein a day. Hard to keep them!

That's awesome, assuming your property is low fence?
