I have a bunch of different Lews setups. My favorite for cranking is the TPX tourney rod. 7' medium action.

I prefer glass with mod fast action. Definitely a technique specific rod

My advice is to get the lowest gear ratio reel you can for more torque. Throwing a crank bait over time will wear you down. Some like a fiberglass rod for forgiveness.

Glass rod and a 5.4:1 reel.

Deep cranking is a dobyns 805 CBRM with a 6.3:1 reel.
Medium/squarebill rod is a 705 CB glass with a 7.4:1 reel.

I like fishing deep cranks fast. Hands do cramp up a little with the 6.3:1 reel, but my arm would fall off trying to crank anything slower.

60hp Yamaha. I find I can fish 2-3 cranks at once for hours on end if I only have to reel in the fish.
