Extremely fun trip, went out with Williams Party Boats out of Galveston. Boat had a lot of good huals. I came out with 7 black fin tuna, 9 vermilion snapper and 1 squirrel fish. Deck hands and captain were top notch. Onboard food and drink options are priced extremely cheap so eating/drinking on board was simple. I would highly recommend them for this trip. 40 anglers, everyone had a full bunk bed to themselves.

I feel like this is good. I don't know salt water, but I think it's a win.

You're going to have more frozen seafood than Schwan's.

Nice haul for a 36 hour trip!

Pound for pound blackfin has to be the strongest fish that swims. They're excellent eating too. Great for sushi, grilled, blackened, etc. It has a higher fat content which makes it turn funky in the freezer faster than yellow. Keep it packed on ice in the fridge and eat as much as you can in the next week. Then try to eat anything frozen in the next couple months.

180 miles.
Leave at 630am
4hr to snapper, spend few hours fishing there
5hr to oil rig for tuna, spend all night till sun up jigging or casting
5hr back to snapper, spend a few hours
4hr back to port, arriving around 5pm

We had 40 anglers, everyone had a full bunk bed to themselves which was nice. Fully air conditioned cabin.

Do you not have to ice them down more quickly? Nice catch!

These have been iced for many hours already, they hung them up just before getting into port.

I took a look at the trips out of Galveston and they are all booked. I have some questions if you have a minute.

1. How long out did you reserve?
2. Some sites mention moon phases, does that matter?
3. Do they assign you a spot?
4. Did you jig and top water for the tuna?
5. This would be an fun txags outdoor trip.

Thanks for the post.

Couple items to note down.
Even if you dont bring your own rods (i recommend that you do, even a cheap setup will beat the boat rods), you do need to bring your own tuna jigs. The 8oz needle jigs, fully luminous were killing the tuna. Boat has big spot lights along its side to charge you lures on. You can also bring a uv flashlight to supercharge them instead, i would recommend this.

Bring a towel to wipe your hands on, squid is the bait for snapper and it gets everywhere.

Get fighting belts for everyone, even a cheap one. Your arms will thank you.

If the boat is driving to the next major spot, you should be sleeping. You won't last the full tuna night if you dont.

Bring waterproof deck boots or shoes, constant seawater running down the deck washing blood and gunk off the floor and wet feet all night sucks.

Even if you never get seasick, take dramamine or similar anyways. You will not be a happy camper if you get sick an hour or two in.

Port side was shaded almost the entire trip for me, i recommend picking your spots there.

Bring 3-4 changes of clothes, it was nice not having to sleep in squid/blood covered clothes lol

Enjoy the trip, it was a blast.

Great info! I'll work with my best friend, who is in reality my "brother from another mother" (I call mother "Mom" and he does the same for my mother. )

We went to MS, HS and A&M together and I am Gofather to his two youngest. His oldest is a fish this year.

Little tidbit i forgot to mention:
On the tuna night, the deckhands were passing out fresh tuna sashimi from a fresh caught fish. Little soy cup going around to dip it in and it was amazing. The deckhands made the experience 100% better. From banter and jokes to the tireless effort to untangle people without having to cut lines. This crew was top of the line.

Is this one of those trips that you also have to pay to keep your fish? Heard that some of those party fishing boats sell to the galveston fish markets so you have to buy your fish in addition to the trip fee.
